Two Aspects to the Calling<br />
• Primary – a call TO BE a disciple <strong>of</strong> Christ<br />
• Secondary – a call TO DO something<br />
(your career)<br />
The secondary calling matters only<br />
because the primary calling matters most
Three Requirements <strong>of</strong> <strong>Disciple</strong>ship<br />
1. Obey God’s commandants (John 8:31-<br />
32)<br />
2. Love one another ( John 13:34-35)<br />
3. Bear fruit (John 15:7-8)
1. Obey God (John 8:31-32)<br />
• To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus<br />
said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are<br />
really my disciples. Then you will know<br />
the truth, and the truth will set you free.
The World’s Truth<br />
2 Timothy 3:1-5<br />
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last<br />
days. People will be lovers <strong>of</strong> themselves, lovers <strong>of</strong><br />
money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their<br />
parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving,<br />
slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers <strong>of</strong><br />
the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers <strong>of</strong><br />
pleasure rather than lovers <strong>of</strong> God — having a form <strong>of</strong><br />
godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do<br />
with such people.

2. Love One Another (John 13:34-35)<br />
• “A new command I give you: Love one<br />
another. As I have loved you, so you<br />
must love one another. By this everyone<br />
will know that you are my disciples, if you<br />
love one another.”<br />
• Peter promises to never deny the Lord.
True Love - The Agape Variety<br />
• Cheap love is easy<br />
•You can give without loving, but you<br />
can’t love without giving.<br />
• Loving your enemies<br />
• Love is a choice<br />
Who do you find most difficult to agape?<br />
Choose to agape that person today.
3. Bear Fruit (John 15:7-8)<br />
• If you remain in me and my words remain<br />
in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will<br />
be done for you. This is to my Father’s<br />
glory, that you bear much fruit, showing<br />
yourselves to be my disciples.
Bearing Fruit that Matters<br />
• Not possible based on our own strength.<br />
•Fallen human behavior cannot imitate nor<br />
influence others for Christ.<br />
•Only a life dependent upon Christ<br />
•Mission teams
