With their simple, clean lines in a cubist style, the members
of the Park Family epitomise the archetype of
classic modern upholstered furniture. If they seem to be
somehow familiar and recognisable, then this is entirely
the intention of Jasper Morrison, whose work is in fact
often aimed at refining an existing type and giving it a
contemporary form.

Jasper Morrison completed his training at the Kingston Polytechnic and at the Royal College
of Art and founded his own design studio in London in 1986. Morrison first caused a sensation
with two room installations, called "Reuters1 News Centre" (for the Documenta 8 in Kassel,1987)
and "Some New Items for the Home" (shown at the DAAD Gallery in Berlin, 1988). Both installations
served to impress on account of their clear concepts and the formal reduction of the
subjects. Morrison consequently became the pioneer of "New Simplicity", a design movement
that stands for a more down-to-earth and serious approach to design. Jasper Morrison has
been working regularly with Vitra since 1989. In addition to furniture, Morrison’s designs include
lights, numerous home accessories and textiles.
