Roush Fenway Gears Up for Shootout, 2010 Season
Roush Fenway Racing will open up its 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season in the Budweiser
Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. Roush Fenway will have three entries in this year’s
Shootout; Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards.
ROUSH FENWAY AND THE SHOOTOUT
This will be Roush Fenway’s 22nd consecutive year with at least one car in the Shootout. The
team made its debut in the Shootout (then the Busch Clash) in 1989 with the No. 6 Ford of Mark
Martin. During that span Roush Fenway has fielded 42 entries in the Shootout, posting 11 top-five
and 26 top-10 finishes, including one victory and two runner-up finishes. All in all Roush Fenway
has fielded multiple cars in the Shootout 12 times, with nine different drivers behind the wheel.

Roush Fenway Racing boasts one victory in the Shootout, with Mark Martin taking the checkered
flag in the 1999 all-star event.
HOW THEY QUALIFIED
This season saw another shift in the qualification rules for the Shootout. Each of the 12 qualifying
Chase drivers were included, as well as past champions and Daytona winners. Greg Biffle and
Carl Edwards each qualified via their Chase status in ‘09, while Matt Kenseth qualified based on
his 2003 Cup Championship and his 2009 Daytona 500 victory.

LAST SEASON
In a race that saw a record 14 leaders and 23 lead changes, Roush Fenway started five cars in
the ‘09 Shootout - the most ever. Jamie McMurray in the No. 26 Ford posted a second-place
finish and actually led coming to a green-white-checkered finish. Carl Edwards (7) and Matt
Kenseth (8) each led in the race as well, en route to top-10 finishes, while Greg Biffle (17) and
David Ragan (26) were both caught up in accidents.
DID YOU KNOW?
Greg Biffle’s 44 laps led in the 2005 Shootout are the most by a driver who did not win the event
and the second most ever.

ROUSH FENWAY AT DAYTONA
In addition to the 1998 Shootout win, Roush Fenway has posted three other wins at DIS in Sprint
Cup competition. Most recently last year in the famed Daytona 500 with Matt Kenseth, and 2007
and 2003 summer races with Jamie McMurray and Greg Biffle. In addition, Roush Fenway won at
Daytona in 2006 in the NASCAR Truck Series with the No. 6 entry.

Greg Biffle:
“I can’t wait to get the season kicked off with the Shootout. The Shootout is a big deal if for no other reason than it is the
first race of the season. It’s not a points race, so we can go out there and just have fun with it. It’s always good to get the
extra laps and be able to experiment with a few things during practice and even the during the Shootout. That Saturday
should be pretty exciting for the fans in Daytona with qualifying for the Daytona 500 earlier that afternoon. I think we’re all
just looking forward to getting back to racing.”
Matt Kenseth:
“It’s cool to be a part of the Shootout this year. In the past, when the Shootout field was based off of pole winners, I think I
was only able to compete in it once since I’m not always the best qualifier, so I really like the way they have the selection
criteria set up this year.
“Last year we learned a lot by being able to participate in the Shootout. We were able to learn a lot about the car’s set-up
and handling due to the extra track time you get when you’re able to race in the Shootout. I think that additional track time
will be even more important this year with the bigger restrictor plate. We’ll be going a lot faster at Daytona so handling will
be even more important than it has been in the past.”
Carl Edwards:
“The name says it all – the Shootout is a battle for glory. I’m excited about going there and kicking off the season with a
fun race like that. Scotts will be on board so that’s a great way to kick off our new sponsorship program with them.
“They have meant a lot to my career and I’m proud to have them on the car. Our theme this year is to be the best we can
be and I’m excited for our changes on pit road. The Shootout will be a good warm-up for them. The main goal for me in
that race is to go out and have a blast and try to bring home a trophy.”
