Dear Participants,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 7th
EGPA Conference 2014 in Berlin.
3.5 million people live in our city. Many of them differ, for
example, on account of their background, the colour of
their skin, their sexual identity or their religion. Berlin is
known to be open, colourful and tolerant. Yet there is
still, even here, discrimination or even incidents of
violence towards people who are seen to be “different”. It
is our duty to clearly signal our disapproval of this
hostility. Your conference offers the possibility to tackle
the way the police force deals with hate crime, to learn
from each other and to develop ways in which the
phenomenon of homophobia and transphobia can be
combatted.
