Building Sustainable Communities…..

If we are to build truly ‘sustainable communities’ we cannot

do so without making appropriate provision for our needs as

we become older.

With the demographics of an ageing population we are in

danger of sleepwalking into a housing crisis of significant

proportions if we fail to act soon.

Some Facts and Figures:

• 30% of Households headed by someone over 60

• Over the next 20 years the number of people over 85 will

increase at 6 times the rate of the rest of the population

• Nearly 75% of people over the age of 90 live in private

households

• At least 1.4m people require specially adapted housing to

suit their needs

The Generations & Their Expectations

Next Generation: 1946 - 1964 – The Boomers

Irresponsible!

Know what they want …. And will pay for it!

Want ‘services’ not ‘care’

Competitive / anti-rules / fight for a cause

Jobs for life

…They are already making choices about

retirement housing
