Introduction
If you are considering moving from your own home to live in a care home, this booklet provides
you with more information about the options available to you.
We are aware that considering giving up your own home is a very difficult decision and one
that requires a great deal of thought and discussion with family and friends. Before making
any decisions it is important to talk through the different options available to you.
We help frail, older people to remain safely and independently in their own homes, because
that is what most people want to do. We can do this by:
● providing services like home care or meals delivered to your home
● carrying out works of adaptation and supplying and fitting equipment to help with everyday
tasks or
● installing a Telecare Alarm System that can warn our Carelink Centre of problems in the
home.

Some people may eventually reach the stage when living at home is no longer possible.
This guide will give you more information about the options available to you at this time.
One consideration may be a move into Sheltered Accommodation. Living in a sheltered
complex allows people to retain their independence. It also offers either reassurance of a
warden on the premises or an alarm system to a central control, should assistance be
required. If you already receive services from us in your own home, these can continue, if
necessary, should you move into sheltered accommodation. Our Community Housing Division
and private/charitable organisations can provide this accommodation to eligible people.
