Funds raised by the concert and other fundrais<strong>in</strong>g activities<br />
were used to provide:<br />
$3,000.00 for two scholarships for graduat<strong>in</strong>g JROTC students<br />
$500.00 <strong>in</strong> food gift certificates to be distributed to needy<br />
veterans<br />
$1,000.00 contributed to a Homeless Veterans emergency<br />
fund to provide temporary lodg<strong>in</strong>g for homeless veterans<br />
$500.00 donated to the Veterans transportation program<br />
which transports veterans to the VA Medical Center<br />
$500.00 for telephone cards to be distributed to active duty<br />
troops over seas and those be<strong>in</strong>g hospitalized at Walter reed<br />
Hospital<br />
$500.00 contributed to the Victory Forge Boot Camp for<br />
troubled teenage boys<br />
That makes a total of $6,000.00 <strong>in</strong> contributions for veterans<br />
and youth programs.<br />
The Chapter was also able to set aside $10,000.00 for a<br />
<strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> Memorial fund to design and erect a <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong><br />
Memorial <strong>in</strong> Port St. Lucie, Florida.<br />
The concert was an overwhelm<strong>in</strong>g success, and will cont<strong>in</strong>ue<br />
to be an annual event for the Chapter.<br />

In March 1997, the Chapter passed a resolution by a 97-1<br />
marg<strong>in</strong> to award two $500.00 student scholarships. We contacted<br />
several local neutral educators and found some will<strong>in</strong>g to<br />
screen all the applications. We gave a ten po<strong>in</strong>t bonus <strong>in</strong> the scor<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to applicants who were relatives of <strong>Korean</strong> <strong>War</strong> veterans.<br />
Once the rat<strong>in</strong>gs were completed, we took a floor vote on the recommendations.<br />
In May 2001 we <strong>in</strong>creased the number of $500.00 scholarships<br />
to be awarded to four. Two went to current year high school<br />
graduates. The other two went to current college students.<br />
Aga<strong>in</strong>, <strong>in</strong> <strong>2005</strong>, we awarded four $500.00 scholarships, rais<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the total number of scholarships awarded s<strong>in</strong>ce 1997 to 28.<br />
