The inspiration for the brand Fosilum comes from Ancient Greece and the Roman 

Empire, where light represented good ideas and wisdom. The name Fosilum is 

derived from “fos”, which in Ancient Greek corresponds to light and from the Latin 

“lumen, luminis”, which means lamp. 

Our technical expertise and creativity led us to design a new series of lights 

while pursuing the principles of energy efficiency and ease of installation and 

maintenance. 

The relationship between energy efficiency and savings is based on lighting 

systems that use energy efficiently, providing for the reduction if not elimination 

of excess (glare) and the wasting of light (light dispersion). 

Fosilum designs and manufactures a line of innovative lamps based on the 

most advanced LED technology. Our products are distinguished by being energy 

efficient, durable and simply structured. 

Starting with the first design phase, much attention is paid to the outward 

appearance of the lamps, which must be fully integrated into the architectural 

environment, providing a high quality of light that meets the expectations of users. 

Fosilum products are built with lightweight materials and an attractive design that 

enhances the technological components. Our products are continuously improved 

to enable a longer lifespan, always in accordance with the conditions imposed by 

the applicable national and European legislation.

Colour Temperatures 

Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) 

Correlated Colour Temperature (CCT) is a specification of the colour appearance of the light emitted by a light source, 

relating its colour to the colour of light from a reference source when heated to a particular temperature, measured in 

degrees Kelvin (K). The CCT rating for a light is a general “warmth” or “coolness” measure of its appearance. However, 

as opposed to the temperature scale, lamps with a CCT rating below 3200 K are usually considered “warm” light 

sources, while those with a CCT above 4000 K are usually considered “cool” in appearance. 

For example, the daylight colour temperature varies throughout 

the day. At sunrise and sunset, the CCT is around 3000 K. At noon, 

the CCT is at its highest level of around 5500 K or higher. The 

colour temperature of light has an important effect on people. In 

places where people gather such as coffee shops, restaurants, and 

hotel lobbies, a warmer light colour of around 3000 K is desired. 

The warmer light colour causes greater relaxation in people. In 

places where people should be more focused on their work such 

as in classrooms, offices and conference rooms, the light colour 

temperature should be cooler at around 4000 K. 

The colour temperature of light is represented by a chromaticity 

diagram on which the wavelengths of the light and its intensity to 

the human eye meet with the colour temperature. If you look at 

the chromaticity diagram, you can see that warmer temperature 

colours have more red and orange hues and cooler colours have 

more blue hues.
