I write in response to your request for information in relation to site inspections at the Comely Bank
Centre, Crewe Road South, Edinburgh.
I have been provided with information to help answer your request by Ms Michelle Finnie, Lands
and Property Manager, NHS Lothian.
Question:
1. The Department responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Comelybank Centre,
Crewe Road South, Edinburgh
Answer:
NHS Lothian’s Estates Department is responsible for the maintenance of the Comely Bank
Centre.
Question:
2. Documentary evidence of the Western General’s and NHS Lothian’s policy for gritting of
pavements in the Western General, Royal Victoria Hospital and Comelybank Centre.
Answer:
I have enclosed the gritting regime and the snow clearing policy for the Western General
Hospital area applicable over the winter of 2012/13, including the diagram showing the
snow clearing plan for the Comely Bank Centre.
Question:
3. The date on which the overflow pipe, which juts out from the side of the Comelybank
Centre, was discovered to be leaking and dripping down to the pavement.
Answer:
I am advised that the overflow pipe described was found to be leaking on 3 April 2013 and
was adjusted and tested on the same day.

4. The date on which this was inspected.

Answer:
After adjustment and testing on 3 April 2013 the site was inspected again on 16 May 2013.

5. The date on which the overflow pipe was repaired.
Answer:
3 April 2013.

6. What steps were taken to repair the overflow pipe and by whom?
Answer:
The ball-cock was adjusted and tested on 3 April 2013. The ball-cock was overhauled on
28 June 2013 after a fault with the boiler was reported.
