In 2000, <strong>the</strong> biowaste collecti<strong>on</strong> was <str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>tensified <str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> 21st und 22nd Viennese Municipality<br />
Districts. Dur<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g 2001-2002, it was successfully extended <strong>on</strong>to <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r outer districts. In <strong>the</strong><br />
progress <strong>of</strong> this reorientati<strong>on</strong>, public bio-b<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>s have been removed. Each garden owner has<br />
been <strong>of</strong>fered an own bio-b<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g> at his disposal. In parallel, empty<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g sequence has been<br />
reduced from twice down to <strong>on</strong>ce a week, so to ensure a greater fill<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g grade <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
c<strong>on</strong>ta<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>ers.<br />
A number <strong>of</strong> experiments have detected a quite low amount collected (and thus too high<br />
collecti<strong>on</strong> costs) <str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>ner districts, with <strong>the</strong> material prov<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g also a negative impact <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
compost quality.<br />

Utilisati<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> biowaste material as a resource for compost producti<strong>on</strong> dem<strong>on</strong>strates vividly<br />
<strong>the</strong> waste-and-resource recycl<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g cycle. Approximately 30% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>itially collected organic<br />
material rema<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>s as high-quality compost at <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> producti<strong>on</strong> cycle. The product is<br />
distributed, free <strong>of</strong> charge, am<strong>on</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Viennese agricultural companies (<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2002: 20.690 t<br />
be<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g>g ca. 60% <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> total compost amount), <strong>the</strong> forestry (ca. 30%) and private buyers and<br />
small garden uni<strong>on</strong>s (<str<strong>on</strong>g>in</str<strong>on</strong>g> total ca.10%).<br />
