OLYMPIA Holiday Extravaganza on Saturday, December 18, 2010 was a success! Cotton candy, spin<br />
art, tattoos and snow! The fun slide and a bounce house were set up in the Loggia. It was a great day<br />
for the many residents, their children and grand children! A very big thank you to all of the Bristol<br />
Management staff who helped make this event extra special!<br />
Santa arrived with his special elf. Together they handed out Bristol Management balls and candy<br />
canes to the children. Group photos were taken! Feel free to stop by the office or email Lisa Fuller<br />

On December 5, 2010 at the OLYMPIA MASTER ASSOCIATION Budget Meeting, the Board of Directors<br />
unanimously voted to adopt the 2011 budget with no increase in quarterly assessments.<br />
In an effort to better serve the residents of OLYMPIA, Securitas recently implemented a new<br />
tracking system. Approximately 75 barcodes have been strategically placed around the community.<br />
While making the rounds of the property, the Security Supervisors scan the barcodes with a custom<br />
designed Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). The device has the capacity to take photographs and<br />
generate reports. The information is automatically downloaded to a centralized computer and is accessible<br />
in the event of an unusual incident. With this new technology, we can monitor the extensive<br />
patrolling that occurs each day. Moving to a digitized system will assist the residents of OLYMPIA by<br />
keeping the community secure and private.<br />
Valley Crest is here to help! What follows is an excerpt from a letter from Valley Crest regarding<br />
plant care during the chilly winter months. “In the last several weeks Florida has experienced record<br />
or near record cold weather with temperatures low enough to damage landscape plants. Damage can<br />
vary from area to area within a landscape. Low temperature is part of the equation of plant damage.<br />
The duration of cold weather is also important. The longer temperature lingers near freezing the<br />
greater the potential plant damage.<br />
Turfgrasses: Areas of lawns exposed to freezing temperatures will likely lose color and remain<br />
brown until the return of consistent warm weather.<br />
Annual color and succulents: Herbaceous plants are very susceptible to freeze damage and<br />
covering them may not fully protect these plants when temperatures dip into the low 20’s or stay<br />
below freezing for an extended period of time. Pansies, violas and snapdragons will likely recover<br />
with time but impatiens and other tender plants that were unprotected may not recover. Only time<br />
will tell.<br />
Shrubs and trees: Damage to woody plants is species dependent and is going to be most severe on<br />
tropical plants that are planted north of their normal adaptation zone. Damage is characterized by<br />
the blackening of leaf tissue immediately after the freeze. These leaves will quickly dry out and turn<br />
brown. Part of the plant may remain green. Wait to see the extent of damage before pruning out<br />
dead wood.<br />
Palms: Freezing temperatures produce immediate damage to flowers and leaves on some palms, it<br />
may also deform embryonic leaves that are just forming in the bud which may not show until<br />
spring or early summer when the leaves emerge. Do not prune any damaged fronds from palms if<br />
they still contain green tissue.”<br />

Jacqueline Huhem<br />
Y ou hear her before she arrives. She says she can’t walk unless she’s listening<br />
to music. Once she arrives, the shining smile lights up the room. She proudly<br />
shares the newest addition to her family. She is Jacqueline Huhem with her<br />
granddaughter, little Hannah Densen, out on their daily walk together. Her warm<br />
hello is a reminder that, yes there still are wonderful people in the world. Could it<br />
be any sweeter than that?<br />
Y ou may expect Jacqueline to offer the occasional tidbit of grandmotherly advice.<br />
But she earns that right. It is born of a lifetime of devotion to family. Don’t be<br />
fooled by her demeanor; Jacqueline is much more than your typical grandma. She<br />
is a hard working, accomplished artist.<br />
