workshop, run by the Oxford Academy of<br />
<strong>Documentary</strong> Film, aimed at preparing you<br />
<strong>to</strong> use digital film in your fieldwork. Each<br />
workshop provides a generic understanding of<br />
digital filmmaking. There will be a particular concentration<br />
on hands-on teaching of film production<br />
techniques.<br />
OADF’s 5-day intensive workshop will give<br />
you an OADF certificate of proficiency in<br />
documentary filmmaking. By the end of<br />
the course you will have learned the basic skills <strong>to</strong><br />
make a short documentary:<br />
• for research purposes<br />
• as an AV addenda for a thesis or publication<br />
• for internet distribution<br />
• for educational use<br />
You will complete four hands-on camera<br />
exercises, write and redraft a film proposal,<br />
shoot in teams on location in Oxford and<br />
help us edit your collaborative efforts in<strong>to</strong> a short<br />
video, which you can take with you on DVD. You<br />
will become aware of the ethical, financial, legal,<br />
and stylistic issues involved in representing other<br />
people. By viewing a variety of different socially<br />
relevant films, you will be aware of different genres<br />
and understand the style and approach relevant <strong>to</strong><br />
your research work.<br />
This course is run in two variants: one with a<br />
bias <strong>to</strong>wards scientific filmmaking, the other<br />
<strong>to</strong>wards creating documentaries for social<br />
sciences. Each is lead by filmmakers with an international<br />
reputation in their respective areas.<br />
The course is run in the brand new Apple<br />
Training Centre at OUCS. The cost is £650.<br />
