28th Annual <strong>St</strong>. Patrick’s Day Parade Set for<br />
Saturday, March 17 at 1:00<br />
The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> Chamber of<br />
Commerce will hold their 28th<br />
Annual <strong>St</strong>. Patrick’s Day Parade<br />
on Saturday, March 17, <strong>2012</strong><br />
along Lake Avenue beginning at<br />
1 p.m.<br />
The Board of Directors of the<br />
<strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> Chamber of Commerce<br />
is proud to announce their selection<br />
of The Honorable Jack<br />
Toomey as the <strong>2012</strong> Grand Marshall<br />
in their 28th annual <strong>St</strong>.<br />
Patrick’s Day Parade.<br />
Jack, a lifelong resident of the<br />
Smithtown/<strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> area, was<br />
educated in the local schools<br />
and graduated from Smithtown<br />
Central High School in 1965.<br />
Soon after high school, Jack was<br />
drafted into the Army and served<br />
two years from 1966 to 1968 –<br />
one year as an infantryman in<br />
Vietnam where he was decorated<br />
for valor in action and received<br />
two Bronze <strong>St</strong>ars.<br />
Upon leaving the army Jack returned<br />
to Smithtown and graduated<br />
from <strong>St</strong>ony Brook University<br />
in 1972. In 1976 he graduated<br />
from law school and started a<br />
successful law practice on Main<br />
<strong>St</strong>reet in Smithtown, where he<br />
practiced for over <strong>25</strong> years.<br />
On May 28, 1972 Jack married<br />
Dot – they honeymooned in Ireland<br />
and this May they will celebrate<br />
40 years of marriage. Jack<br />
and Dot have three adult children,<br />
Kerry, Tracey and Jack that<br />

they are very proud of.<br />
Jack has been an active member<br />
of the <strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> Fire Department<br />
for over 30 years and is<br />
assigned to Engine Co. 3.<br />
In 2002 he was elected to the<br />
Suffolk County District Court<br />
where he served for nine years.<br />
In 2008 he was selected as the<br />
Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association’s<br />
Judge of the Year.<br />
In 2011 Judge Toomey was selected<br />
to institute and preside<br />
over the newly formed Veteran’s<br />
Court, due to his military, legal<br />
and judicial background. Presiding<br />
over the Veteran’s Court and<br />
helping veterans who have come<br />
into the criminal justice system<br />
due to alcohol, drugs or PTSD<br />
(post traumatic stress syndrome)<br />
has been the highlight of his judicial<br />
career.<br />
While on the District Court<br />
bench Judge Toomey served as<br />
Acting County Court Judge and<br />
presided for three years in the<br />
pre-indictment felony division. In<br />
2011 Judge Toomey was elected<br />
to the Suffolk County Court<br />
bench where he currently presides<br />
over serious felony cases.<br />
Judge Toomey is very proud of<br />
his Irish heritage and is especially<br />
proud that all four of his<br />
grandparents were born in Ireland<br />
and is truly honored to be<br />
selected as Grand Marshall of<br />
this year’s <strong>St</strong>. Patrick’s Day parade.<br />
The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> Chamber of<br />
Commerce and the great community<br />
of <strong>St</strong>. <strong>James</strong> wants to take<br />
this opportunity to honor Judge<br />
Toomey and thank him for all his<br />
time and service to the community.<br />
