28th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade Set for
Saturday, March 17 at 1:00
The St. James Chamber of
Commerce will hold their 28th
Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
on Saturday, March 17, 2012
along Lake Avenue beginning at
1 p.m.
The Board of Directors of the
St. James Chamber of Commerce
is proud to announce their selection
of The Honorable Jack
Toomey as the 2012 Grand Marshall
in their 28th annual St.
Patrick’s Day Parade.
Jack, a lifelong resident of the
Smithtown/St. James area, was
educated in the local schools
and graduated from Smithtown
Central High School in 1965.
Soon after high school, Jack was
drafted into the Army and served
two years from 1966 to 1968 –
one year as an infantryman in
Vietnam where he was decorated
for valor in action and received
two Bronze Stars.
Upon leaving the army Jack returned
to Smithtown and graduated
from Stony Brook University
in 1972. In 1976 he graduated
from law school and started a
successful law practice on Main
Street in Smithtown, where he
practiced for over 25 years.
On May 28, 1972 Jack married
Dot – they honeymooned in Ireland
and this May they will celebrate
40 years of marriage. Jack
and Dot have three adult children,
Kerry, Tracey and Jack that

they are very proud of.
Jack has been an active member
of the St. James Fire Department
for over 30 years and is
assigned to Engine Co. 3.
In 2002 he was elected to the
Suffolk County District Court
where he served for nine years.
In 2008 he was selected as the
Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association’s
Judge of the Year.
In 2011 Judge Toomey was selected
to institute and preside
over the newly formed Veteran’s
Court, due to his military, legal
and judicial background. Presiding
over the Veteran’s Court and
helping veterans who have come
into the criminal justice system
due to alcohol, drugs or PTSD
(post traumatic stress syndrome)
has been the highlight of his judicial
career.
While on the District Court
bench Judge Toomey served as
Acting County Court Judge and
presided for three years in the
pre-indictment felony division. In
2011 Judge Toomey was elected
to the Suffolk County Court
bench where he currently presides
over serious felony cases.
Judge Toomey is very proud of
his Irish heritage and is especially
proud that all four of his
grandparents were born in Ireland
and is truly honored to be
selected as Grand Marshall of
this year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.
The St. James Chamber of
Commerce and the great community
of St. James wants to take
this opportunity to honor Judge
Toomey and thank him for all his
time and service to the community.
