MATERIALS

A Yarn Needle.

TENSION/GAUGE

21 sts and 29 rows to 10 cms/4 ins over

stocking st, using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8)

Knitting Needles.

Note - Correct tension/gauge is essential

for a successful handknit.

ABBREVIATIONS

1 row P, rep - repeat, beg - begin/ning, tog -

CREATE

Hat

Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Needles, cast on

111 (121) sts.

Beg 1 x 1 rib - 1st row (RS) - K2, * P1, K1,

rep from * to last st, K1.

2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Last 2 rows form 1 x 1 rib.

Cont in rib until work measures 5 cms/2 ins

from beg, ending with a 1st row.

Next row (WS) - Rib 4 (7), rib 2tog, * rib

8 (11), rib 2tog, rep from * to last 5 (8)

sts, rib 5 (8) = 100 (112) sts.

Next row - Knit.

Beg patt - 1st row - Knit.

2nd row - K1, purl to last st, K1.

3rd row - Knit.

Last 3 rows form patt.

Cont in patt until work measures 13 (15)

Shape crown - Keeping patt correct, 1st

Arm Warmers (make 2)

Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Needles,

cast on 53 sts.

Work in 1 x 1 rib as for Hat until work

measures 5 cms/2 ins from beg, ending

with a 2nd row.

Next row - Knit.

Beg patt - Work in patt as for Hat until

work measures approx 24 cms/9½ ins

from beg, ending with a knit row on RS.

Work in 1 x 1 rib (as before) until work

measures 33 cms/13 ins from beg, ending with

a 2nd row.

Cast/bind off loosely in rib.

Scarf

Using 4.00mm (US 6), (UK 8) Needles, cast

on 39 sts.

Work in 1 x 1 rib as for Hat until work measures

15 cms/6 ins from beg, ending with a 1st row.

Next row - Rib 4, rib 2tog, * rib 2, rib 2tog,

rep from * to last 5 sts, rib 5 = 31 sts.

Next row - Knit.

Beg patt - Work in patt as for Hat, until work

measures approx 125 cms/50 ins from beg,

working last row on WS.

Work in 1 x 1 rib (as before) until rib section

measures 15 cms/6 ins, ending with a 2nd row.

Cast off loosely in rib.

FINISHING

DO NOT PRESS. Using yarn needle, darn in

ends.

Hat - Using yarn needle and mattress st seam,

join side edges together to form centre back

seam. If desired, make a tassel approx 12

cms/5 ins long and attach to top of crown.

Arm Warmers - Using yarn needle and

mattress st seam, join side edges together to

form inside arm seam.

Scarf - If desired, make 4 tassels each tassel

18 cms/7 ins long and attach one tassel to

each corner of scarf.
