WELCOME TO INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTOR: EUROPE
Dear Colleague,
Infrastructure Investor: Europe is PEI’s fifth annual forum focussing on infrastructure investing in Europe.
With the environment for infrastructure investment improving markedly from the post-Crisis depths of 2009, the forum will present
an opportunity to explore in depth a more upbeat market.
Among many other things, the forum will examine: which sectors are hot; where are deals being done; how is financing being
organised; what fund terms and conditions are being seen; and what’s the limited partner view?
We stand at a watershed moment in the development of infrastructure as an asset class, which explains the strap line for this
forum: “New models for a new era”.
For example, public-private partnership models are being re-examined in the wake of the Crisis to ensure that
they deliver value for money. The forum will take a close look at what innovations are arising as a result.
We are also seeing innovation in the way in which fund managers are engaging with investors, and
2010 has notably seen the growth of the developer fund, with fund launches by the likes of Balfour
Beatty, John Laing and Lend Lease. The forum will scrutinise the types of funds being raised, and
ask what the strategic rationale is - both from the developer point of view, and from the investors
committing capital.
Other highlights of the forum will include a one-to-one interview with Andrew Gillespie-Smith of
Global Infrastructure Partners, in which he will provide insights into the equity syndication of
Gatwick Airport. In addition, our Big Debate will see two teams go head-to-head to discuss the
emotive topic of whether banks or pension funds are the optimal owners of infrastructure assets in
the long term.
The global editorial team from Infrastructure Investor will be present, covering the news
and issues that arise from the event.
I look forward to seeing you in Berlin.
Sincerely,
Andy Thomson, Senior Editor, Infrastructure | PEI
