About the Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Political</strong> <strong>Science</strong><br />

The Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Political</strong> <strong>Science</strong> at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Florida</strong> strives to provide a rigorous, high-quality educational<br />

program for undergraduate students <strong>and</strong> a highly<br />

selective graduate education ranging from pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

Masters level programs to Ph.D. training.<br />

There are approximately 1,400 undergraduates majoring<br />

in <strong>Political</strong> <strong>Science</strong> at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Florida</strong>.<br />

Every year 75–100 students participate in our internship<br />

program with local, state, <strong>and</strong> federal agencies <strong>and</strong><br />

legislative <strong>of</strong>fices, allowing these students to see theory<br />

being put into practice.<br />

Our faculty members mentor over 120 graduate<br />

students in our Masters <strong>and</strong> Ph.D. programs. Each year<br />

the department supports 25–30 students with teaching<br />

<strong>and</strong> research assistantships, <strong>and</strong> aids others in obtaining<br />

external fellowships <strong>and</strong> grants.<br />

Our faculty’s scholarship, teaching, <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

activities have earned the department a reputation<br />

among the top programs in the country. <strong>Political</strong><br />

<strong>Science</strong> faculty members have been at the forefront <strong>of</strong><br />

efforts to internationalize the campus <strong>and</strong> curriculum at<br />

UF <strong>and</strong> to develop new <strong>and</strong> unique opportunities for<br />

undergraduates to participate in study abroad programs.<br />

most prestigious law schools in the country. Many have gone<br />

on to become leaders in politics, government, business, <strong>and</strong><br />

the legal pr<strong>of</strong>ession.<br />

Broad-Based Curriculum<br />

The department <strong>of</strong>fers students a broad-based curriculum that<br />

addresses the critical challenges facing the world today <strong>and</strong><br />

provides opportunities for student-faculty collaboration <strong>and</strong><br />

h<strong>and</strong>s-on learning.<br />

To continue providing students with the best possible educational<br />

experience, the department increasingly depends on<br />

the private donations <strong>of</strong> alumni <strong>and</strong> friends. Through these<br />

contributions, we’ve been able to support undergraduate <strong>and</strong><br />

graduate students’ travel to political science <strong>and</strong> policy conferences,<br />

a vibrant speakers series, awards for our best student<br />

papers <strong>and</strong> theses, <strong>and</strong> building our library collection.<br />
