About the Department
of Political Science
The Department of Political Science at the University of
Florida strives to provide a rigorous, high-quality educational
program for undergraduate students and a highly
selective graduate education ranging from professional
Masters level programs to Ph.D. training.
There are approximately 1,400 undergraduates majoring
in Political Science at the University of Florida.
Every year 75–100 students participate in our internship
program with local, state, and federal agencies and
legislative offices, allowing these students to see theory
being put into practice.
Our faculty members mentor over 120 graduate
students in our Masters and Ph.D. programs. Each year
the department supports 25–30 students with teaching
and research assistantships, and aids others in obtaining
external fellowships and grants.
Our faculty’s scholarship, teaching, and professional
activities have earned the department a reputation
among the top programs in the country. Political
Science faculty members have been at the forefront of
efforts to internationalize the campus and curriculum at
UF and to develop new and unique opportunities for
undergraduates to participate in study abroad programs.

undergraduate and graduate level.

on to become leaders in politics, government, business, and
the legal profession.
Broad-Based Curriculum
The department offers students a broad-based curriculum that
addresses the critical challenges facing the world today and
provides opportunities for student-faculty collaboration and
hands-on learning.
To continue providing students with the best possible educational
experience, the department increasingly depends on
the private donations of alumni and friends. Through these
contributions, we’ve been able to support undergraduate and
graduate students’ travel to political science and policy conferences,
a vibrant speakers series, awards for our best student
papers and theses, and building our library collection.

• James Button Memorial Fund (12537) need-based
awards to graduate students whose research is focused
on race relations, poverty or diversity issues
• Barbara Roth Memorial Fund (8909) recognizes
students who make a difference in the community

purchase of resources in our library
