A Defcription of<br />

He made no new Laws relating to theSubje£ls,<br />

but only revived the Natural and Ancient Laws,<br />

which he enforc'd with new Penalties proportionable<br />

to the Crimes.<br />

The Firft is" againft the Chriftians, That if any<br />

Foreigner fhall be found who is a Chriftian, and<br />

who hath feduc'd or endeavoured to feduce the<br />

Inhabitants toChriftianity, he fnall be imprifon'd,<br />

together with all thofe whom he hath feduced.<br />

And if he will renounce the Chriftian Faith, and<br />

^orfhip Idols, he fhall not only be pardon'd, but<br />

have a certain Penfion allowed him for his Subfiftence<br />

•, but if he refufe to do this, he (hall be<br />

burnt alive. And as to thofe who have been feduced,<br />

if they will return to their former Idolatry,<br />

they fhall be fet at liberty •, but if they will<br />

not, they fhall be hang'd. And farther, if any<br />

Stranger that is a Chriltian comes there to Merchandize,<br />

or upon any other account, if he will<br />

renounce his Chriftianity, he may without interruption<br />

do his Bufinefs, and leave the Ifland when<br />

he pleafeth, but if he isconftant in his Faith, he<br />

(hall be crucify 'd.<br />

The Second is againft Murtherers, Thieves and<br />

Robbers, viz. Whofoever fhall kill another Man<br />

tinjuftly, (hall be hang'd up by the Feet with his<br />

Head downward, and afcer this manner (hall hang<br />

alive a longer or fhorter time, according to the<br />

Barbarity of his Crime, until he be (hot to Death<br />

with Arrows: But if he be both a Robber and a<br />

Murcherer he fhall be Crucified. A Thief fhall<br />

be punilhed according to the heinoufnefs of his<br />

Crime, either with Hanging, or continual Impri-<br />

Ibnment, or with Whipping, or a Fine.<br />

The Third Law is againft: Adulterers, vis. They<br />
