industry Shape of the Future The 18th Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Workshop WAS held in Melbourne in February, with a special focus on body contouring. Caitlin Bishop repoRTS. The 20th of February marked the opening of the 18th Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Workshop. It saw a number of Australian and international plastic surgeons descend upon the vibrant city of Melbourne for the three-day conference, held at the Crown Conference Centre. The 2014 Workshop focused on body contouring and delved into some of the most cutting-edge concepts in liposuction, gluteoplasty, gynaecomastia and trunkoplasty procedures, with a spotlight on surgery after massive weight loss. International keynote speakers included American plastic surgeons Dr Constantino Mendieta, Dr Alexander Moya and Dr Simeon Wall Jnr. Dr Wall Jnr spoke about the history of liposuction, and the improvements in safety, understanding and instrumentation in the industry. He described his approach to achieving the best results in body contouring using his SAFE Lipo technique, which involves no suction and a fat equalisation technique to ensure smooth and attractive results. Breast surgery were also discussed at length. Keynote speaker Dr Mendieta spoke on the different preferences in breast aesthetics seen across the globe. He also shared the factors he assesses to achieve the best results in breast rejuvenation. For example, he looks at the gland to muscle transition, torso length, gland to muscle relationship and position, and the longterm results of mastopexy alongside augmentation. His talks were heard alongside those from Dr Wall Jnr, on breast issues after massive weight loss and optimising the “mummy makeover”, Melbourne plastic surgeon Morris Ritz, on the male chest and gynaecomastia. The Advanced Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Workshop wouldn’t be complete without a buzzing social scene. The welcoming cocktail party and gala dinner provided the perfect venues for catch-ups and some fun.
