PURE VISION P LASMA TVS
Pioneer’s Original PURE Drive
for supreme image quality
If you want to be at the cutting edge of today’s
technology then Pioneer PURE Drive is for you.
Created exclusively by Pioneer, PURE Drive features
a brand-new digital image processing concept that
offers the optimal viewing and listening
experience. PURE Drive is completely digital, so it doesn’t require numerous
analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue conversions, which cause undesirable
noise. It manages high definition imagery extremely efficiently, noticeably increasing
video quality from normal video signals and high definition TV — the future
broadcasting standard — to PC signals and compressed formats, such as MPEG.
Once you’ve experienced PURE Drive, you won’t want anything else.
More picture quality technologies behind
PURE Vision Plasma TV
True Matrix Imaging with Deep Waffle Rib Structure.
No need to worry any more about closing the blinds on a sunny day to be
able to watch the TV screen. With Pioneer’s unique True Matrix Imaging, the
images on your PURE Vision Pioneer Plasma TV will glitter just as brightly as
the sun outside. An innovative Deep Waffle-shaped Rib Structure increases
the area of light-emitting phosphors, increasing the brightness. With this
deep cell structure you will enjoy far brighter images with a stronger contrast
of colours. You will get the full impact of pure colour intensity, day and night.
The secrets behind PURE Drive.
PURE Drive features a number of leading edge technologies that put it way ahead of
its competitors. Pioneer’s exclusive MPEG Noise Reduction reduces the mosquito
noise, unique to MPEG compressed video images, making digital satellite
broadcasting a pleasure to watch. Similarly, Digital Noise Reduction minimises
picture noise, offering the highest image quality. It also faithfully reproduces each
image from the original source, ensuring that every picture is true to life. And with
Natural Enhancer, outlines are further balanced, creating even sharper images. The
new Dynamic HD Converter transforms interlaced PAL signals into progressive
1,280 x 768 (1,024 x 768 with PDP-434HDE) pixel signals, offering smoother, sharper
and clearer images than ever before. But those images are by no means dull; the
PURE Vision Dynamic Range Expander enhances the dynamic range to produce the
most vivid of pictures.
There is never a dull moment with Pioneer Plasma TV. With Pioneer’s unique
Pure Colour Filter II, a stronger contrast of colours makes sure that every
colour is at its brightest and boldest at all times. Reflection is minimised so
that true colours can be maximised and images literally glitter on the display,
Super CLEAR* Drive.
Ever wondered what was lurking in the shadows of your favourite film noir? With
Pioneer’s advanced Super CLEAR* Drive, it’s no longer a mystery. Unlike any other
Plasma available, outlines of even the darkest images are clear and distinct, rather
than fuzzy or jagged. Eliminating overly high reset discharges, Super CLEAR* Drive
eradicates false contour noise of poor gradation areas. It significantly intensifies
contrasts and improves grey gradations, expanding your viewing pleasure.
High-definition display (True and Wide XGA).
A Pioneer Plasma TV displays computer signals (from Mac or PC) extremely
accurately. With 2.5 times more cells on their XGA panel than conventional
VGA screens, it precisely displays all computer signals, from VGA through
True XGA (1024 x 768), all the way to Wide XGA (1280 x 768). With superior
sharpness and definition already a reality, Pioneer Plasma is more than ready
for high density digital formats including High Definition DVD-ROM, TV (1080i
and 720p), Digital Camera and D-VHS, as well as Blu Ray Discs and high
definition broadband contents such as Windows Media 9 Series. Replicating
your monitor exactly on the big screen, there are no jerks or wobbles and
images show up crystal-clear whether you are surfing the web or consulting
the Dow.
Digital Flicker-free.
Tired eyes from tiny flickers on TV are finally a thing of the past. Pioneer’s
innovative progressive scan drive scans all 580 lines in 1/50 second and
constructs a complete frame. In addition to progressive scanning, Pioneer
has developed a new digital method to prevent flicker. Although 100 Hz
scanning is considered to deliver the best result, false contours might appear
in some scenes. The new Pioneer Digital Flicker-Free technology completely
eradicates flicker and false contour, ensuring that every image is of the
utmost quality.
equally in two smaller ones. Users can really expand the Plasma TV
possibilities. For example, you can check an outdoor security camera while
Keep only your favourite films.
(DVR-5100H-S)
Don’t want to miss your favourite TV programme when you
go out, but don’t want to keep it for a long time either?
Pioneer has the answer. The new DVR-5100H-S DVD
recorder has a built-in 80 GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD). That
means that you can record directly onto the Hard Disk
Drive, watch what you have recorded and, if you want to
keep it, you can archive it for storage on a DVD-R or
DVD-RW disc. If not, you can simply overwrite the recording on the Hard Disk Drive
with something else, perhaps with the following episode. It is the most flexible
solution for today’s fast-paced lifestyle.
An amazing recording capacity.
(DVR-5100H-S)
You won’t run out of recording time with the DVR-5100H-S DVD recorder. Using the EP
recording mode, the Hard Disk Drive alone has an amazing recording capacity of
102 hours. You can select one of the four recording modes, ranging from lower to highest
quality (EP, LP, SP, FINE). Of course, the recording time varies depending on the quality
level. There’s also a manual mode that gives you very fine control over the recording
quality, with 32 levels to
choose from. Rec. mode Recording time on HDD
High-speed copying from your Hard Disk Drive
to DVD-R/DVD-RW discs.
(DVR-5100H-S)
Programmes recorded onto the Hard Disk Drive can be fast copied — extremely
fast! — to DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. And your final recording on the
DVD-R/DVD-RW disc will be of identical quality as the original recording for you
to delight in, time and time again.
A one-hour programme recorded in EP recording mode takes only about
2.5 minutes to transfer to a DVD-R disc (‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’)! For
DVD-RW discs, you have the option to copy in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording
Mode)’ or ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’, so you have full control over your
desired picture quality. The copying speed varies depending on the recording mode
(EP, LP, SP, FINE) and the media. With a 4x DVD-R disc, the copying speed —
compared to the real-time length of a recording in ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’
— ranges from 4x to 24x speed, while a 2x DVD-RW disc covers 2x to 12x.
Suppose a recording made on the HDD is too big — such as those made in
highest quality FINE mode — to fit on the disc? Now it’s possible to re-encode
the original HDD recording in a lower recording mode while making a copy to a
DVD disc in real time.
Note: Max recording time per title: 360 minutes (6 hours).
In other words: at 24x speed compared to the actual programme duration of 1 hour!!!
Note: Additional time will be required, e.g. to create management information.
And you can watch what you have recorded on many sorts of DVD players, from incar
systems and portable computers to portable DVD players*. Pleasure on the
Furthermore, high-speed copying from DVD-RW discs in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video
Recording Mode)’ to the built-in Hard Disk Drive is also possible.
* DVD-RW discs recorded in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’ can be played back on ‘RW
Compatible’ players only.
High-speed copying:
any which way you like it.
With a whole range of copying modes available via the
DVR-5100H-S, you can decide to keep anything you
want, whenever you want.
Copy at the touch of a button.
(DVR-5100H-S)
Now you can decide in a split second to copy a Hard
Disk Drive recording — while you are watching it —
directly to a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc. Just push the
‘One-touch Copy’ button on your remote control and
the entire programme is copied at high speed onto a
disc from beginning to end.
(DVR-5100H-S)
You can make copies of multiple recorded titles with
the help of the GUI (Graphical User Interface) and the
easy-to-use Copy List function. Simply add one or
more titles to your Copy List and you’re set to record
them all at once onto a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc. If
needed, you can edit the titles in the Copy List before
making a copy.
Back up your favourite discs.
(DVR-5100H-S)
Suppose you want to share a recording you’ve made
with friends or family, such as recent vacation footage
or photos, or a favourite television programme? The
DVD Disc Backup feature gives you a convenient way
to copy your recorded material from one
DVD-R/DVD-RW disc to another recordable DVD disc.
First copy the material from the DVD disc to the Hard
Disk Drive (HDD), then onto a second DVD disc. You
can be assured that the quality and content of the
backup disc is exactly the same as the original disc. As
the DVD recorder guides you through the entire
process with on-screen displays, it couldn’t be easier.
However, while performing a DVD Disc Backup, you
can still record another TV show to the HDD or play
back other content from the HDD.
Note: This feature only works with finalised DVD-R/RW discs
recorded in ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’.
Play is an amazing new feature on Pioneer new DVD recorders. If you are
interrupted whilst watching your favourite programme, simply start recording on
a DVD-RW disc in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’ or on the Hard Disk
Drive (DVR-5100H-S only). You don’t have to wait until the show is over to see
what happened. When you return, you can start viewing the programme again
from precisely the moment you left off. The DVD recorder will continue recording
the rest of your programme. Likewise, if you are recording a football match whilst
you are out and you happen to get home before it’s ended, there’s no need to wait
until it’s over to start watching. Just sit down, relax and watch right from the
beginning while the DVD recorder continues recording the rest of the match.
Using the scan forward function, you can even skip the less interesting sections,
until you have caught up with the live broadcast!
Simultaneous Recording and Playback.
(DVR-5100H-S, DVR-3100-S)
Just because you’re watching a movie you’ve recently recorded, doesn’t mean
your recording function is out of commission. With Pioneer’s new DVD recorders
— when using DVD-RW discs (and recording in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording
Mode)’) —, you can watch a previously recorded programme while recording new
programme material.
You can record material on the DVR-5100H-S’s internal Hard Disk Drive at the
same time that you are watching another programme recorded earlier on the
Hard Disk Drive (or also on a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc). Similarly, you can record onto
a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc while simultaneously watching a previously made
recording on the Hard Disk Drive.
* Caution: Only when using 2x DVD-RW media and ‘VR Mode (DVD Video
Recording Mode)’. While recording to the disc, playback during scan operations
may not be smooth. Supported on both DVR-3100-S and DVR-5100H-S.
Simultaneous High-Speed Copying and Recording (Multi-Tasking).
(DVR-5100H-S)
The DVR-5100H-S is like having two recorders in one. That’s good news for a
household that likes to watch different types of broadcasts. With its combination
of the high-storage-capacity Hard Disk Drive and the new ‘Time Shift’ features, it
can easily manage different tasks at the same time. For instance, while making a
high-speed copy from the Hard Disk Drive to a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc, or while
performing a Disc Backup, you can make a recording of another programme on
the Hard Disk Drive. Or you can simultaneously watch another recording made
previously on the Hard Disk Drive. Full flexibility to meet all your recording
demands.
Touch-‘n-Go Operation.
All Pioneer DVD recorders automatically scan previously recorded content on an inserted disc and only start
recording at the first available blank location. There’s no way you can overwrite anything accidentally, making
your treasured movies safe forever. And recording has never been easier. One tab on the ‘REC’ button and
recording starts. Each touch of the ‘REC’ button equals 30 minutes of recording time (max. 6 hours). For a film
that lasts two hours, you simply press the ‘REC’ button five times. It couldn’t be easier!
Automatically optimized recording Quality.
Let your DVD recorder make the settings for you. With Optimized Recording, you automatically get the best
quality recording linked to the available disc space*: the recorder changes the recording quality if a timer
recording won’t fit onto the disc space available.
Instant overview of free recording space.
If you have run out of blank discs, it can take
forever to work out which one of your existing discs
might have enough space left to make a new
recording. But not any more. Just press the ‘Disc
History’ button on the remote control, and the
on-screen GUI (Graphical User Interface) provides a
complete overview of free recording space on up to
30 archived discs. So there’s no need to
individually insert the discs into the DVD recorder
to check for space. It helps you locate a particular
Two convenient recording modes for disc recording.
Both official DVD Forum recording formats, ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ and ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording
DVR-5100H-S and DVR-3100-S DVD recorders, it is possible to record from one to six hours of material in either
‘Video Mode’ or ‘VR Mode’ depending on desired picture quality. The recording quality (compression rate) can be
selected using one of four presets for 1 (FINE), 2 (SP), 4 (LP), or 6 (EP) hours of recording. For more exact control
over the recording quality, we have also included a manual mode with 32 different compression rates to choose
After finalising a DVD-R/DVD-RW disc in ‘Video Mode’, Pioneer’s new DVD recorders create a menu with selectable
thumbnail images so you can easily access recorded programmes on a compatible DVD-Video playback system.
You even have a choice of nine different thumbnail menu
Recording Formats and Playback Compatibility:
‘DVD-Video format’ recording: The use of the DVD-Video format for recording on DVD-R and DVD-RW discs is referred to as recording in ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ on Pioneer’s DVD recorders. Supporting
playback of DVD-R/DVD-RW discs is optional for manufacturers of DVD playback equipment, and there is DVD-Video playback equipment that does not play DVD-R or DVD-RW discs recorded in the DVD-Video
format.
Note: ‘finalisation’ is required.
‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode) format’ recording: The use of the VR format for recording on DVD-RW discs is referred to as recording in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’ on Pioneer’s DVD
recorders. DVD-RW discs recorded in the VR format can be played back on Pioneer’s and other companies’ players that feature the ‘RW Compatible’ indication.
Easy recording from a variety of sources.
With Pioneer DVD recorders, the fun never runs out. Record from a digital camcorder.
Transfer your existing videotape to DVD, or record high-quality TV. The new models
also feature PAL/NTSC recording, and the built-in tuner is compatible with the
European broadcasting systems. With PAL/NTSC recording, you can record PAL
broadcasts in PAL and NTSC in NTSC onto a DVD disc. With the DVR-5100H-S, it is
possible to store both formats simultaneously on the Hard Disk Drive.
PDC/VPS/VIDEO Plus+.
Pioneer DVD recorders are crammed with features for smooth recording from
terrestrial or cable TV. They record digital broadcasts from a connected settop
box or TV with integrated digital tuner. Using the VIDEO Plus+ number of
the VIDEO Plus+ system, the time and channel settings, recording date, start,
and stop are set automatically for recordings using the built-in tuner. You can
programme up to 32 timer recordings up to a month in advance. And to make
sure you don’t miss the end of programmes that may run late (a live football
match, for example), you can take advantage of the PDC/VPS system for up to 8 of
your timer recordings (only when the corresponding codes are transmitted by the
broadcaster).
Note: This DVD recorder features an integrated TV tuner that is capable of handling analogue TV
broadcasting signals via the ‘RF antenna input’ according to the following TV standards: PAL B/G —
PAL I — SECAM L. The specifications of the integrated TV tuner do not restrict the ability of this DVD
Recorder to accept PAL/SECAM video via its ‘analogue video inputs’ from other sources, such as settop
box TV receivers, or via the digital i.LINK input.
19
Record from a digital camcorder (digital A/V input) via i.LINK.
Dubbing from digital sources to the Hard Disk Drive (with DVR-5100H-S) or DVD discs is simplicity itself. Just connect your camcorder to the
DV IN/OUT connector on the front of the DVD recorder. Then use the remote controller — and Pioneer’s easy-to-use GUI — to control both
machines. You can dub, play back, pause, fast-forward, and rewind. To restore some of your homemade DVDs to the camcorder, just plug into the
DV IN/OUT connector and you’re ready. One DV cable is all you need to input/output A/V data and control signals (some models of
camcorders/decks may not be supported).
colour noise reduction, in order to achieve the best possible recorded picture
quality. When watching TV or other external sources, settings can be adjusted to
the specific nature of the source. That means you can even make images from an
old videotape look better when you dub it to a disc. There is a wide selection of
pre-defined settings, or use the Video Adjust menu to create your own customised
settings.
An Advanced MPEG Video Encoder.
When it comes to stunning video, Pioneer shines. Advanced encoder technology is
why. By combining Single-Pass Variable Bit Rate Control with Multi-Resolution,
Pioneer DVD recorders can perform ideal video image compression encoding. The
result? Dramatically improved picture quality. On ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording
Mode)’ DVD-RW discs, multi-resolution technology uses three-quarter and
two-third resolution settings, in addition to full- and half-resolution. This allows for
less abrupt changes in quality over longer recording times.
Pure RGB Video output.
For absolute top-quality video, Pioneer DVD recorders feature RGB output via
Euro-SCART. RGB video out ensures the purest, high-quality images, without loss
of detail. Depending on your TV set’s capabilities, you’re able to select the best
matching video output quality on the Euro-SCART connector between composite
Video, S-Video and RGB.
CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media).
What is CPRM? CPRM is a content protection system required for the recording of
‘copy once’ broadcast programmes. CPRM stands for ‘Content Protection for
Recordable Media’. All Pioneer DVD recorders are CPRM compatible, which means
that you can record copy-once broadcast programmes but you cannot then make a
copy of those recordings. CPRM recordings can only be made on CPRM-compliant
DVD-RW discs formatted in ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’, and CPRM
recordings can only be played on players that are specifically compatible with
CPRM.
Note: CD-R/RW DVD-R/RW Playback: Discs may not be played back because of the following reasons: recording characteristics of recorder/characteristics of disc/scratch and dust on disc/dust and
condensation on pickup lens or others.
CD-R/RW Playback: CD-R/RW discs for Audio recorded in CD Audio, VideoCD or MP3/WMA audio or JPEG format can be played back. Unfinalised discs except those in CD Audio formatting cannot be played
back.
Note: When playing DTS-encoded (CDs, DVDs), noise is output from the analogue stereo outputs. To avoid possible damage to the audio system, the consumer should take proper precautions when the
analogue stereo outputs of the DVD recorder are connected to an amplification system. To enjoy DTS Digital Surround playback, an external 5.1-channel DTS Digital Surround decoder system must be
connected to the digital audio output of the DVD recorder.
Note: Super Video CD compatibility: Pioneer's new DVD recorders support playback of the IEC’s Super Video Compact Disc (Super Video CD) standard (IEC 62107). Compared to the VideoCD standard, Super
Video CD offers superior resolution and picture quality, and allows two stereo soundtracks on the disc, although some functions, including time indication, don’t work.
The secret behind NXT SurfaceSound technology.
An entirely new acoustic design concept, NXT SurfaceSound is based on Distributed Mode Loudspeaker (DML) technology. NXT speakers contain a
small motor or ‘exciter’ that generates waves in a flat, stiff panel. This movement creates sound in a completely different way than with traditional
speakers. A wider sound diffusion engulfs the listening area in an expansive sound field and much less volume is lost in relation to distance. Not
only do they sound great, but NXT SurfaceSound speakers are much lighter and much more versatile too, making them easier to place.
NXT SurfaceSound panels produce well-defined and stable sound in most living environments, just as good as, if not better than the sound quality of conventional
directional loudspeakers. With a broad radiation pattern and wider ‘universal sweet spot’, the sound diffusion works better within the room.
dialogue, as well as Euro-SCART for the utmost ease in connecting to other
devices and the capability to handle pure RGB video transfers. It is a sure bet
for home cinema fans. Your sound will be fine-tuned to your home theatre
environment using Easy Room and Seat Position Set-Up while the colour
corresponding terminals and speaker cables simplify installation. When you
turn it on for the first time, you will discover the biggest surprise in this petite
Euro-SCART: one cable, perfect output.
(NS-DV1000, NS-DV990, NS-DV99, DCS-515, DCS-313)
A complete home cinema system doesn’t have to mean that you have a
maze of cables to connect and to try to hide. Pioneer’s DVD home cinema
systems are equipped with a Euro-SCART out. That means just one cable
connects the audio and video signal between your system’s main unit and
TV. Depending on your TV’s capabilities, you can select the best matching
output quality on the Euro-SCART between composite Video,
S-Video and RGB.
Dolby Pro Logic II with extended music parameters.
(NS-DV990, NS-DV99, DCS-515, DCS-313)
Enjoy the thrill of 5.1-channel surround sound from just 2-channel sources. Pioneer’s unique Dolby Pro Logic II reproduces multi-channel surround sound
from a variety of sources, including videotapes and CDs.
Pro Logic II offers special effects too. You can bring the big theatre into your home with Dolby Pro Logic II Movie processing, creating a dynamic sound that approaches fullfledged
Dolby Digital big-theatre acoustic quality. Dolby Pro Logic II Music processing upgrades 2-channel stereo CD output to the same surround sound ambience that you
find with 5.1-encoded sources. In addition, Dolby Pro Logic II Music offers three optional parameters. Centre Width Control lets you make adjustments to the centre sound
image in eight different ways. You can focus the sound on the centre speaker, on the left/right speakers providing a ‘phantom’ centre image or you can use a variety of
combinations of the three front speakers. You can also gradually adjust the sound field moving it further forward or further back in 7 steps, using Dimension Control. Or you
can wrap the room in music with the Panorama Mode. It extends the front stereo image to include the surround speakers, literally enveloping the entire room with sound.
Easy Room and Seat Position Set-up.
(NS-DV1000, NS-DV990, NS-DV99, DCS-515, DCS-313)
Now you can select your room size and seat position for maximum sound impact. By using the Room Set-up button, you can select the size of your room (small, medium, or
large) and the sound will be adjusted accordingly. You’re also able to indicate your listening position so that the sound (delay) can be matched to where you’re sitting.
DVD Home Cinema System
500 W (75 W x 6 + 25 W x 2) RMS
®O kP yb/a
With a revolutionary wireless one-body rear surround speaker and an easy-tooperate
philosophy, this innovative 500 W RMS (75 W x 6 + 25 W x 2) power
home cinema system leaves a lasting impression. The curvy main unit,
matching front satellite speakers and wireless rear speaker with built-in
amplifier blend perfectly with the slim subwoofer and discreet transmitter. The
transmitter sends out the sound signals to the wireless speaker; the wireless
speaker with Direct Diffuse technology lets the sound bounce off walls and
ceiling, so you can jump right into spine-tingling surround sound action. On
top of that, the rear speaker is transportable; just bring it to an adjacent
space*, plug it in and enjoy the music from the main unit. You’ll be amazed at
how easily you can get this system up and running. With the new colour-coded,
plug-‘n-go speaker terminals, it’s a cinch to connect your speakers, and the
Euro-SCARTterminal on the rear panel ensures easy installation as well as
high-quality RGB video. Next you’ll want to tailor the sound to fit your room
and your seating position, by using the easy Room and Seat Position Set-up. Is
the dialogue on your favourite action film unclear? Try out Pioneer’s new
dialogue-enhancing DSP technology. With Dolby Digital, DTS and Dolby Pro
Logic II (including extended ‘Music’ parameters: Centre Width, Dimension and
home cinema. Highly compatible, the system plays back DVD-Video, DVD-RW
(both ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ and ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording
Mode)’), DVD-R, CD, VideoCD, Super Video CD, CD-R and CD-RW, as well as
JPEG, WMA and MP3 files on CD-R and CD-RW discs. Your complete system is
easily controlled with the stylish, TV preset remote.
Experience the ultimate in flexibility and convenience with the wireless one-body rear speaker.
(DCS-515)
Pioneer’s revolutionary wireless rear speaker with built-in amplifier and separate transmitter provides levels of convenience, comfort and
flexibility that will blow your mind.
With Direct Diffuse technology, rear
channel sounds are reflected from
wall and ceiling.
Thanks to Direct Diffuse technology, implemented in the DCS-515, you can get surround sound with only
one rear speaker — the traditional two rear speakers are now combined into one body — two front
speakers, a centre speaker and subwoofer.
This innovative wireless technology also enhances your freedom in positioning the rear speaker — at
ear level or down low, as long as the rear speaker is placed behind the listener. The rear channel sounds
bounce off the wall and ceiling, approaching you from all directions for a magnificent cinematic surround
sound experience. Furthermore, the technology expands the ‘sweet spot’, so there is a larger area of the
room where you, your family and friends can fully enjoy the movie experience. The sound field is livelier,
so you get more ‘into the action’. And don’t think for one moment that wireless transmission leads to any
quality reduction. Using a 2.4 GHz radio frequency, digital transmission of sound is supported. A choice
of 4 preset frequencies helps in avoiding interference with other 2.4 GHz devices in the house.
0 cm to ear level
Freedom in positioning
the speaker vertically
Freedom in positioning
the speaker horizontally
There’s still more! The wireless technology enables you to take the rear speaker into an adjacent
space* to enjoy 2-channel audio there too. Simply put your CD in the main unit, select Stereo mode,
take the rear speaker into the other space*, plug in the power cable, and you’re ready to enjoy stereo
music from the wireless speaker. What could be easier? Sounds unbelievable? Thanks to Direct
Diffuse technology, you’ll get an unbelievable sound experience as well as unheard of levels of
convenience!
* Normal operation should be possible within a distance of about 10 m, but the presence of obstacles in between the
transmitter and the wireless speaker may result in reception problems; such obstacles can be anything including, but
not limited to, certain types of furniture, constructions, walls/wall materials, etc.
Remark: The radio waves may be disrupted by other electrical appliances operated in 2.4 GHz.
Direct Diffuse technology.
Not only do we hear sound directly, but we also
unconsciously feel the indirect sound of the singer’s
voice, instruments and spatial information. Famous concert halls
aim to create a natural and rich sound that is diffused by various
surfaces like the stage, side walls and ceiling. Direct Diffuse
technology was created by Pioneer engineers in order to acquire this
natural sound in a home environment. This is achieved by including
indirect sound characteristics of frequency, time and threedimensional
direction.
Pioneer’s new DVD players and home cinema systems feature the Video Adjust function, to enable you to easily adjust and save the picture
quality settings to create a better DVD-Video image. The picture quality settings that can be adjusted are Contrast (adjusts the contrast between
light and dark); Brightness (adjusts the overall brightness); and Chroma Level (adjusts the colour saturation). Two modes are available —
Standard and Memory (the latter with two user memory positions). You can use the Memory mode to create your own presets. Just adjust the
picture quality settings as you like and save them to a preset. You can dedicate those presets to favourite films or genres, and recall them at
your convenience. So there’s no need to adjust your TV when watching a DVD.
Dialogue Enhancement.
(NS-DV990, NS-DV99, DCS-515, DCS-313, VSX-C501, VSX-C301)
Isn’t it annoying when you miss some key dialogue during loud action scenes such as an explosion or gunfire? With Pioneer’s Dialogue Enhancement technology, you
won’t miss even the quietest whisper! The reason why dialogue often goes ‘missing in action’ is because the dialogue sound is too soft or the background sound is too
loud. The centre speaker, which mainly reproduces dialogue and vocals, is usually placed above or below the TV; this positioning often lessens the impact of the
dialogue since the centre channel sound doesn’t reach the listener at an ideal height compared to the left/right speakers. This new Dialogue Enhancement mode uses
the left/right speakers in addition to the centre speaker for enhanced reproduction of the dialogue,
and also creates the impression that the centre channel sound is coming directly from the TV. (Left and
right speakers must be positioned at the same height as the TV, i.e. at ear level.) The function can also
be switched on at any time you feel that the sound from the centre channel isn’t clear.
Advanced Surround Modes.
Pioneer’s home cinema systems offer a wide range of pre-defined easy-to-use Original Surround Modes, including
Advanced Music, Advanced Movie, Expanded, TV Surround, Virtual Surround Back, 5-channel Stereo, Phones Surround and Dialogue
Enhancement.
Advanced Movie reproduces a mid-sized movie theatre environment, while Advanced Music adds the
acoustic feeling of a large concert hall. Expanded gives sound depth to Dolby Surround sources and TV
Surround produces surround sound from mono or stereo TV sources. Virtual Surround Back lets you
experience 6.1 surround sound with a 5.1 speaker set-up. Just switch to Virtual Surround Back mode when
playing sources with a surround channel, and the left and right rear satellite speakers will create a phantom
sound source behind you. So it sounds as if there were a speaker there, involving you in the surround
experience even more than before. 5-Channel Stereo mode creates an acoustic environment using all the
speakers in the system for rich Original Surround Sound modes. Phones Surround reproduces an overall
surround sound when using headphones.
Most models also include several new surround modes: Sports lovers will want to use the Sports mode when watching their favourite
game. It gives you the impression that you’re at the stadium, in the middle of the action. Select Dialogue Enhancement for
enhanced centre channel reproduction during those action sequences, when watching the latest blockbuster.
B UILDING UP YOUR HOME CINEMA SYSTEM
Creating a complete digital home cinema set-up is simpler than it may seem. Just relax, proceed according to the steps below and get ready to enjoy your very own home
cinema experience.
Step 1: Add a DVD Player
1
Start out with what you have: your TV/VCR combination, stereo hi-fi speakers, CD player and amplifier. Then add a DVD-Video player
to your TV/VCR combination. In addition to outstanding image quality and superb sound, DVD-Video allows you to view films in
various languages, with a selection of soundtracks and subtitles. You can also enjoy other features like viewing per chapter and, on
some DVDs, camera angle selection.
Step 2: Add an A/V Receiver or Amplifier + Centre/Rear Speakers
2
Add a Pioneer A/V surround amplifier or receiver as well as centre and rear speakers to experience supreme surround sound. Choose
carefully because the A/V amplifier or receiver is the central component in any home cinema system, connecting all the units and
amplifying sound from your TV, DVD, CD, or MiniDisc. A Pioneer A/V amplifier or receiver not only provides powerful sound, but can
accept a variety of image sources, like a video camera or game console. This is especially easy if your A/V unit has input terminals
on its front panel.
Step 3: Add an Active Subwoofer
3
The final touch. Add a quality subwoofer to create perfect 5.1-channel surround sound. With 6 speakers in total —
2 front, 2 rear, 1 centre and 1 subwoofer, you’ll be able to enjoy Dolby Digital or DTS surround sound to its full extent.
The front left and right, centre, rear left and right speakers span a wide range of frequencies and there is a dedicated
low frequency speaker for extra sound impact. The subwoofer guarantees sonorous bass reproduction, just like in the
cinema. Pioneer’s A/V amplifiers and receivers offer built-in support for decoding compressed
5.1-channel surround sound sources, which wraps you in sound. If your existing speakers seem a bit tired, treat
yourself to a completely new 5.1-channel A/V speaker set!
Step 4: Add Surround Back Speaker(s) for 6.1/7.1 Surround Sound
4
Be future proof. With THX Surround EX/Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES, surround sound has gone one step further by adding an additional
‘Surround Back’ channel. So adding one or two satellite speakers behind the listener means an even more impressive soundscape.
DVD-Video raises the standard of sound and vision in home entertainment. And Pioneer raises the standard of DVD-Video, with a line-up of multi-compatible DVD-Video
players designed to live up to every expectation. Case in point: the DV-757Ai DVD player plays back the complete range of digital discs. Its i.LINK Advanced Resolution
Digital Audio Interface stands for advanced digital networking and the Dual PureCinema Progressive Scan allows you to enjoy detailed, flicker-free images from either PAL
or NTSC DVD discs.
For evidence of how Pioneer is popularising DVD technology, consider the sleek, yet affordable DV-565A, DV-464 or DV-360, all available in black or silver. Their Video
Adjust function, on-screen JPEG picture viewing, and other conveniences were, until recently, the domain of only the most exclusive DVD players.
So play away to your heart’s content, to your full advantage. Such performance is what dreams are made of.
i.LINK* (Advanced Resolution Digital Audio Interface).
(DV-757Ai)
The i.LINK interface is also known as IEEE1394 or FireWire. Thanks to the support for high throughput and the existence of industry standard content
protection technology, it is the ideal interface for new, demanding digital environments.
The DV-757Ai — equipped with i.LINK Advanced Resolution Digital Audio Interface — can directly and securely pass the digital content of an audio
disc to a compliant amplifier or receiver. Signals passed through the interface include uncompressed formats (e.g. LPCM or DSD), as well as compressed audio
formats (e.g. Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG). Pioneer’s engineers developed the i.LINK Advanced Resolution Digital Audio Interface that delivers this output free of
jitter**. The i.LINK interface even goes further, integrating support for device-to-device communication, which enables, for example, operation commands to
be transferred via the i.LINK connection. Real Digital Networking at your doorstep!
* The i.LINK interface is also known as IEEE1394. FireWire is a trademark. ‘i.LINK’ and the ‘i.LINK’ logo are trademarks.
108 Mhz/12-bit Video D/A Converter and VQE7 Progressive Converter.
(DV-757Ai)
You expect the very best picture quality and superbly realistic images, as close as possible to the original DVD source. The DV-757Ai’s built-in 108 Mhz/12-bit
video D/A converter responds to those demands. At the same time, Pioneer’s Dual PureCinema Progressive Scan converter — the VQE7 microchip — boosts
image resolution well beyond the limit of traditional data converters and offers stunning moving images. This chip is so clever that it chooses the appropriate
circuitry to provide the best picture for the home cinephile.
If you’re looking for a stunning high-quality DVD-Audio/Video/SACD player, Pioneer has what you want. The DV-757Ai DVD-Audio/Video/SACD player looks
sharp and supports all existing disc formats (DVD-Audio, SACD, SACD Multi-Channel, DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RW*, CD-R, CD-RW, CD, VideoCD and MP3 on
CD-R) so you have the largest possible choice of playback options. Whether you choose PAL or NTSC DVD discs, the PureCinema Progressive Scan ensures
high-quality, flicker-free images. Enjoy Synchronous Play with a compliant A/V receiver — a Pioneer original, while the i.LINK Digital Interface allows for the
transfer of digital audio information. There’s of course also a coaxial/optical Digital Out and, thanks to the DVD-Audio Bass Management feature, you’ll be
sure to get the most from your multi-channel system. This DVD-Audio/Video/SACD player combines irresistably realistic images with sense-engulfing sound.
Home cinema and multi-channel audio has never looked and sounded so good!
* Note: in ‘Video Mode (DVD Video Mode)’ and ‘VR Mode (DVD Video Recording Mode)’.
Dual PureCinema Progressive Scan for Detailed PAL/NTSC Images.
(DV-757Ai)
Pioneer’s top-end DVD player not only features ‘Progressive Scan’ video output in NTSC (525p) format, but also in PAL (625p) format*, allowing you to enjoy both
your NTSC and PAL discs with extremely stable and flicker-free images when connected to a NTSC/PAL Progressive Scan-compatible TV or monitor (using the
component video outputs).
Compared to interlaced video, Progressive Scan video effectively doubles the scanning rate of the picture, resulting in a very stable, flicker-free ‘cinematographic’
viewing experience: Progressive Scan DVD players convert the interlaced 525i (NTSC)/625i (PAL) video from DVD discs into progressive (525p/625p) format for
visualisation on a compatible display. Progressive Scan output works with all standard discs, but the best results are obtained with discs containing source material
originating from film**, as opposed to — typically interlaced — ‘video’. Thanks to the doubled scanning rate the viewer will perceive a significant increase in vertical
resolution, giving a more detailed and film-like picture.
* DV-565A also features Progressive Scan video output, only for NTSC.
** Film is a ‘progressive’ source by nature. When film images are captured, a film camera shoots 24 full image frames per second, while a video camera normally alternately scans ‘fields’ of odd and
even lines. When a film is projected in a cinema, the entire frame is shown in an instant; progressive scan video traces all the lines from top to bottom, creating a similar result.
Note:
Interlaced Video: A method of displaying a picture in which odd numbered lines are updated in one pass, then even-numbered lines updated in the next. Interlaced video is typically used in standard
television and video formats.
Progressive Scan Video: Also called ‘non-interlaced video’. This method of displaying a picture updates all the lines in one pass, resulting in a more stable, flicker-free image compared to interlaced
video (for a given scanning rate). Requires a compatible TV or monitor.
NSV (Noise Shaped Video)* Technology by ANALOG DEVICES.
(DV-757Ai)
The Noise Shaped Video system uses sigma-delta and bit-shuffling to shape the video or converter noise to a higher frequency. This can then be moved to an area
of the spectrum where it can be easily removed by an analogue filter. This results in higher linearity and low noise, or in other words: an extremely accurate signal
representation and improved picture quality.
* Note: ‘NSV’, (Noise Shaped Video) is a registered trademark of ANALOG DEVICES, INC.
Speaker Management and DVD-Audio Bass Management.
(DV-757Ai, DV-565A)
With DVD-Audio players, users risked losing bass when they played DVD-Audio discs over
a typical home theatre system with five smaller satellite speakers and a separate
subwoofer. Pioneer’s DVD-Audio/Video/SACD players offer Bass Management Processing
to overcome bass difficulties. This processing technology includes high-pass filtering of
the main speakers, redirection of the bass from the main channels to the subwoofer output
— all of which are essential for proper low-frequency performance with any
satellite/subwoofer speaker system. Bass Management means the system can low-pass
any speaker to the sub and then send the remaining frequencies to the speaker. It is just
a matter of telling the DVD-Audio player how many speakers are in use, and what size they
are. It is like setting up a Dolby Digital receiver, with the added benefit of an
on-screen GUI.
SACD (Super Audio CD).
(DV-757Ai, DV-565A)
Speaker/Bass Management GUI (DV-757Ai)
SACD uses Direct Stream Digital (DSD) for recording and playback, featuring a frequency response of over
100 kHz and a dynamic range over 120 dB across the audible frequency range. DSD increases the resolution
of music by more closely following the original waveform of the music, which results in music reproduction that is remarkably pure and faithful to the
original.
In addition to exceptional sound quality through the DSD system, the SACD format can accommodate more than four times the information of the current CD format. With
this extra capacity, a SACD disc provides space for 2-channel stereo data, as well as an area for up to 6-track multi-channel data.
Some SACD titles are hybrid discs, i.e. discs containing one high-density layer and in addition a CD layer; this type of SACD can be played on current CD and DVD players.
The DSD Direct DAC makes the best use of the wide frequency range information of SACD, resulting in very high-quality sound reproduction.
Multi-channel Surround Sound
For true music lovers, nothing equals a
live concert experience. As well as the
best-ever 2-channel stereo,
DVD-Audio delivers total-immersion
6-channel surround sound using a
significantly higher resolution linear
PCM (Pulse Code Modulation), far
exceeding the frequency range of CDs.
This fuller, more expressive
performance makes every sound come
alive.
Multi-channel sources play beautifully
also in 2-channel stereo.
Advanced Information and
Interactive Capability
Just like DVD-Video, DVD-Audio discs
feature more than the performance. In
fact, your DVD-Audio disc can be
crammed full of artist bios,
background information, lyrics, liner
notes and more. If you want, you can
even highlight different sections of the
music — that’s just one of several
options, all easily accessed via the
interactive menus. Some discs even
come with videos, still photos, and
connections to related websites.
Staggering Sound Realism
With CDs, it’s not unusual to lose
definition in fast-paced passages or
with high-pitched instruments.
DVD-Audio solves that problem. With
a sampling frequency 4.3 times higher
and a resolution 256 times finer than
CDs, DVD-Audio captures the highest
frequency range and separates
individual notes for richer, cleaner and
astoundingly true-to-life sound.
DVD-Audio’s ultra-high resolution and
dynamic range (up to 144 dB
compared to CD’s 96 dB) is a result of
up to 24-bit quantisation and 192 kHz
sampling, a significant advance over
the 16-bit and 44.1 kHz of CDs.
Ultra-high Volume Storage
Imagine an audio disc that
can play continuously 400 minutes of
2-channel stereo sound at
44.1 kHz/16-bit (audio CD resolution).
Or more than 1 hour of 6-channel
96 kHz/24-bit or 2-channel
192 kHz/24-bit audio. A DVD-Audio
disc can. Because discs can hold so
much data — 4.7 Gbytes or almost
seven times a CD when using the
single side/single layer format.
* Actual DVD-Audio options will depend on the DVD disc’s contents.
Switch on Virtual Surround to enjoy surround sound effects from just two speakers! When you play a Dolby Digital or Pro Logic encoded
source, TruSurround technology from SRS produces a deep, realistic 3D Soundspace over just two speakers in a TV set or other stereo playback system. Efficient
virtualising circuitry processes the surround channels derived by the multi-channel decoder, then mixes them back into the left and right channels. The result over
two speakers is a bigger, more spacious, and more involving sound than regular stereo playback provides. SRS TruSurround is a process certified by Dolby
Laboratories for Virtual Dolby Digital sound.
Note: TruSurround, SRS and the SRS symbol are trademarks of SRS Labs Inc.
MP3 Playback Compatibility.
