General <strong>University</strong> Requirement<br />

As part of the university graduation requirements, students have to complete 30 credits of general<br />

university requirement (GUR) as follows:<br />

1. Language and Communication Requirements (LCR)<br />

1.1. English<br />

All undergraduate students must successfully complete two 3-credit English language subjects as<br />

stipulated by the <strong>University</strong> (Table 1.1.1). <strong>The</strong>se subjects are designed to suit students’ different<br />

levels of English language proficiency at entry, as determined by their HKDSE score or the<br />

English Language Centre (ELC) entry assessment (when no HKDSE score is available).<br />

Students who can demonstrate that they have achieved a level beyond that of the LCR proficient<br />

level subjects as listed in Table 1.1.2 (based on an assessment by ELC) may apply for subject<br />

exemption or credit transfer of the LCR subject or subjects concerned.<br />
