Prickly chair.
The “Ease” of PU flexible foam looks like a contradiction in terms.
Seat furniture made of polyurethane has been around for some time. Bestknown
is the Garden Egg by Peter Ghyczy from the Sixties, which today ranks
among the most celebrated plastic design objects. We reported on it at length
in PUR Magazine 1/2010, No. 18.
An entirely new example of contemporary creativity comes from the Osnabrück
designer Sarah Puls, who has developed an armchair as her contribution to
experimental design. The result is
certainly unconventional, full of
contradictions and wonderfully
comfy – even if it looks pretty prickly.
Called “Ease”, it is a little reminiscent
of a bird’s nest or an open,
prickly blossom. Interestingly, it has
been made from PU flexible foam
in different degrees of hardness,
which allows the individual elements
to move flexibly back and forth. So
take a seat – and don’t be put off
by the prickles.
