An extremely rare commercial usage. [The ACSC states "The 10/- and 20/- were issued only in New South Wales, and saw negligible usage...Correctly [postally] used examples are of extreme rarity and worth a considerable premium...". The postmark is most unusual but is believed to be genuine. The inscription is longer than 'POSTAL PAID'. It could be 'POSTAL PARCEL', but 'POSTAL PAYMENT' would be more in keeping with the purpose of Postage Dues, tho we have no record of any other implement inscribed in either of those forms]{Page 29.6} 146 F (A) B1 - 20/- dull green BW #D51 (SG D44), well centred, faint ironed-out vertical crease, apparently CTO with untidy 'NSW'-in-concentric-ovals cancel, Cat $2500 (£2250). [The ACSC states "All stamps with NSW within three concentric ovals cancellations are believed to be cancelled to order." While we can't dispute that statement, we do consider that they may be postally used, and the untidy nature of the example here strongly supports that notion. We believe it is very telling that Lots 142, 145 & this stamp all have been creased vertically. This is consistent with them having been used on & removed from bulk postage dockets - the only way in which these high values could have been used - that were routinely folded when filed]{Page 29.7} 3,000 T 3,000 T Ex Lot 147 Ex Lot 149 147 * A/B 1906-08 Crown/Single-Lined A ½d x3, 1d x4, 2d x3, 3d (minor gum toning), 4d x3 & 6d x2, various shades & perfs, generally fine, Cat $2150 (£1575). Advertised retail $2000 plus the 3d "POR".{Page 30.1} (16) 148 ** A/A+ - Perf 11½x11 ½d light green with the Watermark Inverted and ½d bright green with the Watermark Upright BW #D53Aa & D53B complete right-hand panes of 60 (6x10) with margins on three sides, the latter pane - crimped perfs at right - with Sheet Number at Upper-Right, [R9/1] in each pane with Flaw between 'ST' of 'POSTAGE' BW #D53d, virtually all units are unmounted, Cat $3000+ (£1560++ mounted). Rare multiples, especially of this quality. Advertised retail $9000+. 149 ** A/A+ - Perf 11½x11 1d (lower-left corner position), 2d & 4d (one unit possibly very lightly mounted) BW #D56 60 & 64 (SG D46 47 & 49) blocks of 4, well centred, unmounted, Cat $1220+ (£620++ mounted). Rare multiples, especially of this quality. Unpriced mint in both catalogues: priced at $2500 (Cat £2500) for the normal stamp. It is believed that only two mint examples have been recorded. Chris Ceremuga Certificate (now lost). [More attractive than Martin West's mint example that sold for £1380]{Page 30.3} 151 O A B1 - 2d light green Perf 11 with the Watermark Inverted BW #D58v (SG D51bv), cancelled with indelible pencil, Cat $2000 (£3750). It is believed that only two examples have been recorded, one normal, and this example with the watermark inverted: neither catalogue notes this distinction. RPSofV Certificate (2000). [Discovered only in 1999, this is the "discovery" stamp. The ACSC states "Two pen-cancelled [sic] examples are recorded"]{Page 30.4} 152 * A- B1 - 4d light green Perf 11 BW #D62 (SG D52), well centred, hinge remainder, Cat $3500 (£4500). An important positional piece that highlights the difficulties associated with utilising the Victorian paper. Ex Hugh Wynn: illustrated by him at page 73 of "The 1907 Emergency Printings of NSW Postage Stamps".
