Hydrogen Generation
Clear Benefits of Onsite Hydrogen Generation
Distributed Energy Systems’ Hydrogen Generation group designs and manufactures proton exchange membrane
(PEM) electrochemical systems to make pure hydrogen from deionized water. HOGEN® hydrogen generation
systems allow a wide range of commercial operations to produce safe, pure, reliable onsite hydrogen to meet
their specific hydrogen requirements.
HOGEN Onsite Hydrogen Generation Systems
HOGEN onsite hydrogen generation systems are self-contained
systems offering application-specific, automated, low maintenance
solutions to the challenge of supplying industrial hydrogen.
Generating hydrogen onsite provides a number of benefits including:
• Lower H2 costs − allowing a 2- to 3-year pay back in many situations
• Enhanced safety − reducing onsite hydrogen storage reduces the risks
to personnel and property posed by stored, volatile hydrogen cylinders
• Increased reliability − providing uninterrupted hydrogen supply
independent from transport and delivery
• Ultra-high purity hydrogen up to 99.9999+%
HOGEN onsite hydrogen
generation systems seamlessly
integrate into your application,
dramatically improving
productivity while eliminating
safety hazards associated with
compressed hydrogen.
Distributed Energy Systems’ Line of HOGEN Hydrogen Generation Systems
HOGEN H Series
Hydrogen generators that produce
ultra-high purity hydrogen gas with
capacities from 76 scf/hr (2 Nm 3 /hr)
to 228 scf/hr (6 Nm 3 /hr).
HOGEN S Series
Compact hydrogen generators that
produce ultra-high purity hydrogen
gas at either 20 scf/hr (0.53 Nm 3 /hr)
or 40 scf/hr (1.05 Nm 3 /hr).
HOGEN GC Series
Designed for scientific applications,
these systems produce ultra-high
purity hydrogen (99.9999+%) at up
to 200 psig. Flow rates of 300 - 600
cc/min are available.
Power Plant Optimization
StableFlow Hydrogen Control System
Distributed Energy Systems’ StableFlow hydrogen control system is an
innovative product that easily integrates into power plants’ current
hydrogen supply to automatically control hydrogen purity, pressure and
dew point. Installing a StableFlow system takes less than a day and may
not require a generator outage.
Actively controlling hydrogen at optimum levels in hydrogencooled
generators:
• Optimizes fuel efficiency
• Maximizes generator capacity
• Extends generator life
• Improves productivity
Customized Solutions
Distributed Energy Systems offers custom hydrogen supply systems for
industrial and scientific customers with unique needs. These systems
incorporate standard HOGEN hydrogen generation systems with ancillary
systems such as compressors, high/low pressure storage tanks, instruments,
blenders or other components.
Up to $1,000/year/MW of
capacity can be gained by the
typical power plant due to
improvements in fuel efficiency
and operating capacity with
the installation of a StableFlow
hydrogen control system.
Case Study
Onsite H 2 Generation Improves Performance at FPL’s Riviera Power Plant
Distributed Energy Systems’
Hydrogen Generation group
manufactured and installed a
proton exchange membrane (PEM)
onsite hydrogen generator and
hydrogen control system at Florida
Power & Light’s Riviera Power Plant.
The onsite hydrogen generator
is designed as a fully integrated
hydrogen supply solution that
uses plant de-mineralized water
and standard single phase 240
VAC power to generate ultra-high
purity hydrogen on demand as it is
needed to maintain pressure, purity
and dew point within the electric
power generator casing. The
hydrogen monitoring and control
system that was installed is an
innovative product that monitors
the hydrogen within the generator
casing and actively controls the
purity, dew point and pressure
within operator preset values that
represent the generator OEM
specifications.
