• In the mid-1980s’, one <strong>drug</strong>, MDMA (Ecstasy), became popular and it was sold in massive amounts in certain parts <strong>of</strong> the western world. • Alexander Shulgin published his books, PiHKAL (1991) and TiHKAL (1997) describing about 230 (phenethylamine and tryptamine based) compounds synthesised in his laboratory.
These chemicals are analogues to the Controlled Substances but are currently not legally banned (“Legal Highs”) in many countries. They generate biological responses not only similar to but are also enhanced as compared to the parental compounds.
