And anyone who listens to Bê Ignacio will immediately
realise that to her music means fun!
When the warm sounds of traditional
Brazilian music fuse with fiery beats
and catchy melodies, Bê Ignacio’s rousing
songs ring out full of the joys of
life. The Grey everyday routine is soon
forgotten once you allow yourself to
be transported by the vibrancy of her
unique voice. Bê Ignacio’s songs sound
like an invitation to enjoy life and let
yourself go.
Having grown up with her Brazilian father and
German mother in Monte Azul, a Brazilian favela in
São Paulo, Bê formed a strong bond with music at an
early age. After the singer decided to emigrate to Germany
at the age of nineteen, she met the percussionist
Markus Schmidt at the Stuttgart College of Music. He
was to be the co-producer with whom she founded
the joint “Bê” project. Although she now shuttles
between the metropolis of São Paulo and the quiet
town of Konstanz on Lake Constance and travels all
over the world for her numerous music projects, her
ties with her home of Monte Azul are stronger than
ever: for several years now she has given part of her
earnings from her musical activities to the Associação
Monte Azul, as well as donations from people
attending her concerts, in order to achieve longterm
improvements in the living conditions in the
favela. As a child, Bê was herself in the orchestra,
the nursery school, the choir and the drama group
run by the initiative, so she knows how especially
important assistance from the many helpers and
staff is for the children and teenagers in Monte
Azul.

INDIA URBANA
The “India Urbana” album,
which will be released this
summer, is influenced by the
streets and people of the city of
São Paulo. “I […] simply wandered
around here in my home
town São Paulo and watched
people in order to gather ideas
and inspiration for the new
CD. And I did really feel like
an Indian at the time,” says
Bê, describing how the title of
“India Urbana” (city Indian)
came about.
Bê composes music and keeps
the close ties with her Brazilian
home alive by using the
sounds of samba, bossa nova,
forró and sambareggae. The
lyrics to the songs are written
by Bê herself and tell intimate
stories from the life of
the passionate musician. Her
songs are about love, happiness
and disappointment and
the many impressions from
her multicultural life between
the German love for order and
Brazilian spontaneity.

Would you call your designs luxurious
or functional, or both?
In my opinion, a good design for an aircraft needs to
be both functional and luxurious. It is much more
difficult to design a combination of both than just
a luxurious design. Only if the cabin is quiet during
flight, if the flight crew can provide perfect service
to passengers, if enough stowage space is available
and if the cabin materials allow for the fact that the
aircraft may be a 100% private jet or a combination of
charter and private operation, can both the operator
and their customer be happy in the long term.
What are the current trends in materials
and shapes today?
noticed that the Art Deco style with its fine furniture
details, beautiful materials like Makassar wood
veneer and wonderful decorated fabrics were popular
in Eastern Europe but in some Arab regions as well.
Some new, certified materials like stone and wood
floors, aviation glass etc. are becoming more readily
available for the aviation market and these new products
will allow us designers much more flexibility in
creating new designs for our customers.
What are the biggest and the smallest jets you
have ever worked on?
The biggest aircraft I have worked on so far has been
the Airbus A340, which I designed at Lufthansa Technik
for the German government. The smallest to date
is the Embraer Legacy 600.
The biggest challenges with small aircraft are the
limited design influences I have as a designer. Due
to the size of the cabin and the weight and balance,
I have to consider that the layouts usually differ
only slightly as regards room and seat configuration.
In addition, most customers order a “standard cabin”
from the aircraft manufacturer – meaning that
Each culture has its own individual taste and for that
reason I can’t generally say that there is a certain
trend for materials and shapes in the aviation industry
at the moment. Of course, I can recognize different
styles in the Arab, (Eastern) European and Asian
cultures and, similarly with the fashion industry, certain
design styles from the past become fashionable
again from time to time. In the past few years, I have

the materials, seat and divan style, ceiling details
etc. are limited to a certain catalogue of options
provided by the manufacturer. Fortunately, this
is different with a refurbishment project, because
these projects are usually carried out by individual
completion centres, I can provide a much better
design service to my clients.
For a large-size aircraft (narrow and wide body),
the biggest design challenge is to stay within the
EASA and FAA regulations with regard to room
configurations, fireproof materials, emergency path
rules etc. Both aviation authorities follow very
strict rules to certify an aircraft and the design
needs to be adapted to follow these
regulations. A great deal depends on
how the aircraft will be operated
later (private, commercial or
even both) and which completion
centre will be responsible for
the interior completion.
Another big challenge is the
weight I have to consider
during the design phase. The
heavier my cabin design is, the
less range the aircraft has in
the end. Weight is extremely
critical, especially for narrowbody
aircraft.

the World Pastry Championship

But then we met the French chocolate-maker
Franck Kestener, whose chocolate creations are
simply heavenly. The confectioner and supplier
to the French President has been awarded numerous
prizes and is full of astonishing surprises
with an extraordinary variety of subtle
tastes: sensual passion fruit or orange with
almond, coated in the finest of chocolate ...

Progressing from one competition to another,
Franck KESTENER slowly elaborates his
recipes like an explorer and his maps. Daring
and resolutely different, Franck challenges
traditions and disrupts our habits. Like an
alchemist in his workshop, he daringly tries
blends that seem wildly extravagant but are
always successful: infusing tarragon, fresh
bay leaves and sunflower seeds.
Since there are no forbidden combinations,
everything is a question of “accuracy and
balance”. These unions of flavour give rise
to ganaches and pralines, all of which are
enhanced and transformed. And we find the
true chocolate, this genuine nectar and sacred
beverage of the gods.

British luxury cars and their special style have always
been the passion of Kourosh Mansory, the owner
and namesake of MANSORY. This enthusiasm caused
him to spend many years in England and personally
commit himself to the values of the automotive industry;
tradition, craftsmanship and well-engineered
technology. The company was founded in 1989 with
a special focus on the Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston
Martin and Ferrari brands. In mid-2001, the company
moved from Munich to the Fichtelgebirge.
At its new location in Brand in the vicinity of Bayreuth,
which is famous for its Wagner Festival, the

THE NEW CELEBRITY?

What is it that makes the currywurst
so popular in Berlin? It’s general
knowledge that the Germans are famous
for their sausages. It’s simply a
fact that there is a currywurst stand on
every street corner in Berlin and they
either serve it with an authentic Berlin
beer or, more stylishly, with a glass
of champagne. But why do people in
the capital make such a big deal of the
currywurst of all things? Because the
sauce was created by Mrs. Herta Heuwer
from Berlin way back in 1949!
She offered fried boiling sausages with
a sauce made from tomato puree, curry
powder, Worcestershire sauce and
other ingredients at her snack stand in
Berlin-Charlottenburg. Following her
application on 21 February 1958, she
was awarded the patent for the “Chillup”
label as a registered trademark for
“Special Sauce” on 21 January 1959 by
the German Patent Office.

A NATURAL WORK

The Auer family of hoteliers has allowed a true
gem made of wood, glass and stone to become
reality in the heart of the Ötztal mountain region.
The building is a low-energy house that satisfies
not only the very latest requirements in terms of
ecology but will also live up the highest aesthetic
standards. It is not for nothing that the 4-star
superior hotel has been ranked among the “Top
25 hotels worldwide” (TripAdvisor), was this year
named the “finest eco hotel in Europe” (GEO Saison)
for the fifth time and has been awarded the
Austrian and the European eco-label.
Natural raw materials
from the region
The “first Austrian, designer nature hotel built of
wood” consists of three inter-connecting buildings,
which have been constructed in a sensitive
manner using mainly natural materials to blend
in with the adjoining, existing “Waldklause” restaurant.
These buildings house 48 out of a total of
54 rooms and suites, designed in keeping with the
principles of Feng Shui. They are connected via
spacious corridors in the form of bridges and are
flooded with light from the glass gable down to
the ground floor similarly to a mountain ravine.
Timber from the local region felled from Swiss
pine and fir trees with moon phase harvesting,
warm colours and natural materials, a sophisticated
lighting system and an unusual room concept
create an altogether special sense of homely
comfort. The façade consists entirely of glass, thus
allowing you a panoramic view of the impressive
mountain scenery as you lie in bed. Each room is
also fitted with its own spring-water fountain.
Suites in applewood
& rowan wood
The six suites in the nature spa wing represent not
only an architectural highlight. The walls and
furniture are made of applewood and rowan wood,
and it is their special grain that lends the 50 square
metre suites their unique ambiance. Warm earth
tones, soft berry hues, deep apple green or vibrant
pink to violet shades meld the natural wood with
modern interior design.
