BIP172
Measuring Carbon Dioxide (CO 2
)
The obtained level (over time) mainly depends on the
number of passengers but also on the tightness of the
vehicle and its interior volume.
preliminary
With four passengers in a vehicle, a critical CO 2
level is
easily reached within 8 to 10 minutes (depending on the
cabin volume and tightness). This leads to discomfort
and drowsiness.
As CO 2
is color- and odorless, the increased
concentration would not be noticed by the passengers –
until physical effects occur.
In order to counteract the risk that passengers are
endangered or even injured by CO 2
concentrations, onboard
monitoring is necessary.
Climate Control Sensor CCS
Customer Benefits:
Efficiency:
- Improvement of A/C system efficiency
- Annual average under European climate
conditions: > 0.1 l/100 km
- Equal to 2.5 g/km CO 2
emission
Comfort:
- Controlled air quality (prevention of microsleep)
Safety:
- Monitoring of elevated CO 2
levels as a result of
leakage in R744 A/C systems (refrigerant: CO 2
)
- Detection of locked-in passengers or animals
Features
Monitoring and control of air quality by selective,
fast and reliable gas measurement
High selectivity, no cross sensitivity
High sensitivity to the target gas (CO2 )
Robust design for automotive requirements
Small and compact housing
Spectroscopic sensor with infrared MEMS detector
and durable infrared source
High accuracy over lifetime
Short response time
Air-temperature and humidity measurement
(optional)
The Robert Bosch Climate Control Sensor (CCS) detects
concentrations of CO 2
quickly and reliably. It uses a
long-term stable physical measuring principle: Non
Dispersive Infrared Radiation (NDIR).
When staying in re-circulation mode for some time,
concentrations of CO 2
in the passenger compartment
increase naturally because of breathing.
Applications
Cooling load reduction by automatic ventilation
control. Maximizes the use of recirculated air and
results in reduction of A/C fuel consumption.
Monitoring and control of indoor air quality
Leak detection in R744 A/C systems
Detection of humans or animals left in the car
