EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT To our Stakeholders, The 2008-2009 financial year was one of challenges and consolidation for the organisation. A number of challenges resulting from the global financial crisis directly affected DRUG ARM’s ability to generate income from fundraising and special event programs, whilst demand for programs and services increased. Despite the difficult position, DRUG ARM reports a small surplus of $46,395. This result is a credit to the Directors, managers and staff for their careful and professional financial management and control of DRUG ARM’s limited resources. During the year Chairman Mr Peter Henderson stood down, but the organisation is pleased that he has decided to remain as a Director. Mr Henderson served on the DRUG ARM Board and the Board of its parent organisation continually since 1979. This is an outstanding contribution to DRUG ARM and Mr Henderson’s special knowledge and skills are appreciated by all Directors and managers. As Executive Director I am delighted with the election of Dr John Roulston AM to the position of Chairman. Dr Roulston has served for many years on the DRUG ARM Board and the parent company the Drug Awareness and Relief Foundation (Australia). To support Dr Roulston AM in his new role as Chairman is Major Rodney Walters who was elected as Vice-Chairman. Major Walters brings many years of experience to this position and I thank both Dr Roulston and Major Walters for accepting these positions and the organisation looks to the future with great expectations under their leadership. I also thank all of the Directors for the many hours of service they provide to DRUG ARM and for their ongoing commitment and contribution to the success of DRUG ARM. DRUG ARM continues to explore new and innovative interventions to support clients with complex and challenging needs. Through the ongoing financial support provided from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA), work continues on improving responses with clients displaying co-morbid symptoms as well as clients experiencing harms associated with amphetamine use. During the year under review, DRUG ARM continues to pursue an ISO9001:2008 quality accreditation. These new initiatives are ongoing examples of how management, staff and volunteers are working together to achieve better management and client processes and practices for DRUG ARM. A detailed summary of DRUG ARM’s programs and services for 2008-2009 follows later in this report. I acknowledge the commitment and dedication of the members of the management team who ably assisted, advised, supported and encouraged me in my role as Executive Director.
