CONGRATULATIONS
TO ALL SWIMMING,
COACHING AND PARENTING WAVES FOR OUR
3RD PLACE FINISH IN THE OMPA!!!!
I am not sure if the coaches let on that to finish 3rd
today was going to take incredible achievement on the
part of all of the swimmers, the enduring energy and
skills of the coaches, and the unyielding enthusiasm of
the parents. And lo and behold (do people even say
that anymore??), from the goosebump-inducing performances
by our swimmers, to the spirit fingers in the
stands - WE DID IT!!! You have to love how being the
underdog brought out the most amazing “Swim
Ups” both in the Trials and in the Finals.
Thank you, thank you to every swimmer, coach and
parent for giving it your all this weekend. You can see
what determination and teamwork can achieve. Remember
that lesson and apply it as often as possible!
Whether you are getting ready for the County Meet,
relaxing for 2 weeks at home before school (I know,
can you believe it is that SOON!), or on a great, much
needed vacation, I am sure you will love hearing more
stats from our inspiring OMPA performance.
Sometimes it seems hard to build up so much enthusiasam
and energy for the OMPA and then it all ends
and most of us are on to soccer, football, dance, etc.,
when it would be really cool to keep on swimming. But
this finish should be our beginning! Not to overuse the
phrase, but let’s ride this wave all the way into fall
(yes, fall swimming starts 9/15 http://
www.mccwaves.com/?p=1188), through spring and
right back into another phenomenal summer.
Enough cheerleading, on to the highlights - keep in
mind again, our kids were so amazing, there are too
many to mention, so these are the highlights of the
highlights…
Since you didn’t get Sunday stats, we will go with
those.
In the Sunday trials our waves were popping their
times not just by fractions but by multiple whole seconds.
In Backstroke, Nick Bishop, Danielle Brown, and
Michael Carson had HUGE pops in the their trials
swims, while Peter Jones, Katie Dendinger, Lauren
Rodriguez, Emma Scanlan, and Greg Wenning had
equally as important and impressive performances in
the Butterfly.
-A critical contribution to our come-from-behind third
place finish was the collective performances of those
kids who finished SO much better than how they were
seeded (and therefore scored more points for the
team than what was expected - which was exactly
what the team needed for a comeback!). The most
amazing Swim Up was that of Jayson Fernbacher who
jumped from an 88th seed in backstroke to finish
From The Pool Deck
11th! Other notable performances were by:
-Hanna Westphal winning her swim off in backstroke
to make it into the Consols
-Alex Rochlin dropping 4 seconds to go from the
32nd seed to the 12 seed in Consols
-Emma Scanlan dropping 3.5 seconds to go from the
37th seed into the top 20
-Anya Nugent dropping 3.5 seconds to jump from
17th seed to the top 10!
-Allanna Karstetter moving from the 27th seed into
the top 20
THEN CAME FINALS!!
First Back -
-Sam Heyman, Shane Nelson, Brady Huchingson,
and Luke McCurdy finished 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively
in the 6 & Under Boys Backstroke.
-Cole Stevens, Noah Baldwin and Patrick Ratchford
finished, 1st, 3rd, and 5th respectively in the 11/12
Boys Backstroke.
-Sam Flower and Allison Stevens took 1st and 3rd in
the 13/14 Girls Backstroke
-For the 13/14 Boys and the 15-18 Girls, there were
5 swimmers in the top 20
-Kate Miles WON the consol heat of her Backstroke
after being seeded 5th
Then Fly -
-After fighting it out in a swim off, Kellen Clancy wins
his consol heat in Fly and gets a County Time!
Emma Scanlan (ON FIRE ALL WEEKEND!) dropped
3.7 seconds in her trials, and then drops another second
to WIN the consol finals
-For the 13/14 Fly we had 6 Boys in the top
20!! Way to go JD Ratchford, CJ Toohey, James
Coleman, Rodrigo Diaz-Valdes, Bradley and Alex
Rochlin!
-And who could forget the 13/14 and 15-18 Girls
Free Relay Teams — these girls’ splits were
unbelievable!
Please give a wiggle to those Spirit Fingers for everyone
who made it to the County Meet as well.
Thank you for giving your time to read about all of
these wonderful achievements and thank you again
for a fantastic ending to our season. As I mentioned ,
I am already looking forward to next year and
guarantee it will be even better!
