OUR CLASSIFICATIONS 

FOR BLADES AND RUBBERS 

Every table tennis player has his own individual style 

of play – as has every blade and rubber. 

It is now possible to obtain a distinctive match between 

the two. It has become very easy for a player to find 

the perfect match of blade and rubbers. 

Few players have only one way of playing. 

There is a distinct basis of play but with 

other elements. For example, all-round 

players will take the opportunity to win 

the point by attacking when possible but 

attacking players are also sometimes 

forced into blocking or passive play during 

certain situations. 

Similarly the performance of blades and 

rubber is not only one-dimensional. There 

is always a wide range of performance, 

which we can now illustrate. 

From DEF (defensive) - and + graduating 

through AR (all-round) to OFF (offensive). 

The first step is to analyse yourself: what type of 

player are you? A rough distinction would be the 

following four categories. 

�� 

You are a defensive player who prefers to slice 

the ball. 

AR 

You are an all round player who uses all TT techniques: 

chop, block, spin, and smash. 

You prefer tactical play and exact placement of 

balls or a speedier game. 

OFF – Focal point SPIN 

You are a strategic player who uses reversed pimpled 

rubber. The main characteristic of your game 

is topspin. Playing close to the table or only from a 

short distance, you try to win your points with spin 

strategies. 

OFF – Focal point SMASH 

You prefer speed to spin. The main characteristics 

of your game are hard blocked balls 

and smashes with exact placement. 

You usually play with ‘pimples out’ rubber 

on the backhand.

ELASTICITY 

Control of the ball is effected when the ball makes 

contact with the bat. The elastic properties of a blade 

make you feel this contact. It is down to the individual 

which type of elasticity is preferred. We outline the 

five categories of elasticity. If you take these categories 

into consideration it will help determine your 

blade choice.

You can really feel the contact between ball and 

blade, often with a vibration. A good example is 

the defensive blade Donic DEFPLAY CLASSIC SENSO, 

which has excellent control.

Balanced, distinct contact between blade and ball with

strategies, and when combined with spin elastic rubber

The choice of handle is purely personal. In our compact 

description you can see the available handle 

shapes for each blade. There is no ‘best’ handle, 

everyone should choose the handle they find most 

comfortable. Straight handles are usually held more 

loosely, while concave and anatomic handles are 

held relatively firmly. Handles, which have not been 

lacquered, naturally absorb sweat better.

Having considered all the additional information, specifically the elasticity of the top sheet, 

the hardness of the sponge, and the control, spin and speed values, you will be able to 

make the ultimate decision.

European players usually play with pimples–in rubber. 

Pimpled out rubber for speed players and long pimpled 

and anti spin rubber for defensive players are encountered 

less frequently. 

The sponge: 

Sponges are available in several thicknesses. The thicker 

the sponge, the more difficult to control, but the more 

spin for topspin shots and the less spin for chopping.

Sponge hardness: 

Modern rubbers usually have three differing degrees of 

sponge hardness. 

We always indicate these in our Compact Description.

We have combined the finest woodplies for our DONIC 

BLOODWOOD blades, plies which are normally used in the production 

of exclusive high quality speakers and musical instruments. 

The Bloodwood outer plies are especially solid and hard, to produce 

the blades’ required stiffness. In order to create the best 

possible mixture of power and feel it was important to combine 

the hard outer plies with soft inner plies and carefully harmonize 

the different thicknesses. 

We had to establish new technology to glue the Bloodwood plies: 

Bloodwood and Palisander plies required stronger pressure and 

higher temperatures in the gluing process in order to create 

perfect feel and avoid disturbing vibration. 

DONIC BLOODWOOD 7 SENSO is an attacking blade of especially 

high quality. This is an exciting blade for the uncompromising 

attacker, due to the well balanced Senso – Technology. 

This 7 ply top quality Swedish blade gives the player full initiative 

when returning the ball without loss of control. 

DONIC BLOODWOOD 5 is an allround plus blade which would

THERMIC BURNED TECHNOLOGY 

The DONIC BURN series 

The thermic treatment of the veneers 

makes for extremely high stability comparable 

to features of high-quality tropical 

woods. The blades are exposed to a 

temperature of 200 degrees centigrade 

for twenty four hours. 

This process hardens the wood and 

removes any humidity. 

The resulting playing characteristics of 

these blades are therefore unique. 

DONIC BURN OFF 

A stiff blade usually offers less control but this does not happen with DONIC BURN OFF. 

For a fast blade at 85 – 90 g it is relatively light and has an outstanding sweet spot. 

It won’t be top heavy even with heavy and hard rubbers.

The OFF- Version is even more controllable and has better feel than the BURN OFF blade. In harmony 

with the thinner middle ply it is slightly more elastic and in combination with somewhat softer rubbers 

imparts slightly more spin than the OFF version. 

At a weight of approximately 85 g this is a standard weight for a high quality offensive blade. This 

beautifully produced high class blade in DONIC’s series has a superb sweet spot.

The main priority in producing the Allround Plus Version of the DONIC Burn blade series has been to 

ensure ease of control and feel. The thinner Kiri centre ply of the DONIC BURN ALL+ offers greater

DONIC EPOX System: Each blade a high quality original 

DONIC EPOX series veneers are not glued with a liquid glue, but with a gluing coat of Epoxy resin. 

The five veneers with epoxy coating are pressed together adding heat for 20 minutes. During this process the epoxy coating liquefies and glues the veneers together. 

The middle veneer and two intermediate layers consist of monoblade veneers. Only one-piece veneers are used in this monoblade technique. 

Other traditional techniques often use several pieces which are put together. 

This means each pressed veneer is only used for one blade resulting in a unique blade of high-quality. 

The unique method of gluing the plies of the EPOX-blades with epoxy resin ensures their special rigidity. Depending on the particular ply formation, extra power and speed are 

achieved. The blade has superior control without unpleasant vibration. 

The edges close to the handle are carefully rounded off. This is the main reason why each blade of the DONIC EPOX series is very easy to handle. 

Many players hold the handle differently for forehand and backhand shots. Due to the smooth, rounded handle, this presents no problems.

is the difference in speed between the forehand and 

backhand playing sides. The AR+/Def+ blade is made of a 5-ply

DONIC Akkadi L1 lives up to the highest expectations of the 

modern player. 

This rubber offers precision and excellent control for defence 

and attack in equal measure. It enables the technically gifted 

player to produce heavy backspin when defending away from 

the table, variations of spin when pushing, and superb control 

when producing “spoiling” shots during attack. Opponents will 

find this rubber difficult to play against. 

3 types of sponge (without sponge, 0.6 mm and 1.0 mm) enable 

you to make the right choice for your personal style of play. 


The most versatile of long pimpled rubbers 

DONIC AKKADI L2 is a versatile long pimpled rubber which is equally 

effective for controlled play close to the table and for the classic 

defensive game. 

Good control and the ability to impart a lot of backspin can be 

achieved with this rubber well away from the table. The OX version 

(without sponge) and 0.6 mm (with a very thin sponge) enables the 

player to play close to the table. The new pimpled top surface produces 

unexpected variations of spin. 

The AKKADI L2 makes awkward attacking strokes possible and, therefore, 

has all the qualities of a genuine allrounder.

compounds (VOC) this water-based glue guarantees

These high performance rubbers are more sensitive to outside influences and are more fragile 

than the classic rubber sheets, which have not been speed glued (e.g. DONIC Vario series). 

The lifespan of each FORMUA DONIC rubber sheet varies, naturally, with the type of player, type 

of rubber, strain on the rubber and care by the owner. The lifespan, however, is considerably higher 

than that of the classic speed glued rubber sheet. Compared to an unglued classic rubber you 

can expect a lifespan of about 60 to 80 per cent. 

Please note: 

1. FORMULA rubber sheets should not be removed and glued again repeatedly. 

2. The regular cleaning of the top sheet with VOC free DONIC cleaners or water is highly 

recommended. 

3. The FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets should be protected against daylight or mechanical 

destruction by using the DONIC bat wallets. 

4. Due to the higher tension of the FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets, the edges can break/ 

crumble more easily. In order to avoid this, please use DONIC edge protection tape. 

5. The bat must be protected against cold and heat. Particularly in midsummer and in winter 

you have to be careful that the bat with FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets is not exposed 

to very high or low temperatures. These extremes can cause the top sheet to 

become rough/brittle at low temperature and swell up at high temperature resulting in 

the life of the rubber being shortened. This means don’t leave your bat in your car or in 

too cold or hot rooms for a long time!
