GEORGIA’S BIOSCIENCE COMMUNITY

Georgia’s diverse bioscience community

encompasses a variety of industry sectors

ranging from pharmaceuticals to medical

devices, vaccine development and clinical

trials. The state’s dedication to the growth

and success of its life science and IT

industries has led many small and emerging

companies — as well as industry leaders

such as CIBA Vision, UCB and Merial — to

call Georgia home.

RESEARCH TO COMMERCIALIZATION

The bridge between product development

and commercialization can be challenging.

The COI for Life Sciences & IT accelerates

this phase by providing direct access to

cutting edge solutions in the University

System of Georgia and industry partners.

Our team works with businesses to

provide industry-specific advice, partner

relationship, and market knowledge.

Additional affiliations with the Georgia

Research Alliance (GRA), key state agencies

and industry thought leaders help cut the

red tape and get things done.

MATCHING RESEARCH GRANTS

Companies may be eligible to participate

in the COI Matching Grant program. These

grants are designed to help companies as

they explore new product ideas, move from

research into development, establish proofof-principal,

collect data for larger grant

opportunities, refine their product offerings

to attract outside investments, and prepare

to offer new solutions to medical challenges.

LOGISTICS

Georgia maintains a transportation and

logistics infrastructure that connects

bioscience companies to suppliers,

distributors, and customers worldwide

via air, ground, and ocean. As part of the

broader Centers of Innovation network,

the COI for Life Sciences & IT has direct

connections into a deep logistics knowledge

base with its COI Logistics counterpart.

Bioscience companies are attracted to

Georgia not only for its international and

domestic reach, but also for its exceptional

infrastructure for time-sensitive product

delivery. This expertise is especially relevant

in addressing the highly specialized and

demanding transportation and supply-chain

requirements of fast-moving life science

and IT industries. Georgia has extensive

perishable facilities that allow companies

to quickly and efficiently ship biomedical

supplies, refrigerated products, live animals,

or fresh plants.
