This provides a good picture of Roll- Royce’s offshore business today. Innovation for us is as much about fine-tuning individual solutions as about the grand sweep of technological advancement. Rolls-Royce is bursting with highly skilled people at all levels, with an extreme interest in product development, new ideas and ingenious improvements big and small. But while some technology-driven companies may struggle to lift their gaze from the drawing board and check where the market is going, we see it as a crucial management discipline to be practised every day. The exciting thing about an innovative company like ours is the wealth of expertise and competence we have on tap, and the opportunities it gives us to support the development of safer and more environment-friendly solutions, and more efficient operations. In response to the steadily growing amount of advanced equipment being designed and produced at our facilities, both vessel crews and service engineers need to keep themselves constantly up to date. This effort will receive a considerable boost in March this year when the brand new Rolls-Royce Technology and Training Centre in Ålesund is officially opened. The centre is the only one of its kind in Europe, and represents a unique meeting place for our industry. It will house several new simulator solutions in addition to a hall for ship’s equipment such as propellers, winches and engines. Products that we supply from various plants in the Nordic region will be brought together here, making the centre a fantastic showcase for the Group’s engineering capabilities. The centre will be one hub in a network of maritime training centres that Rolls-Royce has, or is in the process of building, all over the world. We are also very pleased that the centre is located adjacent to Ålesund University College, and hope to further strengthen the ties between business and academia.
