Hexagon Spiderweb Skidoodles Fabrications Strips by Blank Quilting Quilt designed by Debby Kratovil for Blank Quilting Block Size: 12 x 13-7/8" Quilt Size: 48" x 53" Fabric Requirements: One pack of Skidoodles Fabrications 2-1/2" strips (21 of 40 strips) 5/8 yard light print for background 1/4 yd red for inner border 1 yard for border and binding NOTE: This quilt only uses 21 strips from the pack. I selected sets of three coordinating strips for each of the 7 strips sets needed to make the blocks. I included a variety of colors, patterns and stripes. I always go for good contrast. This pattern will work well with any set of twenty-one 2-1/2" strips with good contrast, excellent for other Fabrications Collections! Cutting Instructions: Work with sets of 3 strips at a time. Prepare the template using your favorite template material (cardstock, freezer paper) or use one of the several multisize 60 degree acrylic templates available. Debby Kratovil sells her own custom, multi-size template at her website: www.quilterbydesign.com 1. Sew together three 2-1/2" strips with good contrast. Offset them 1" as shown in Diagram 1 and press seams in one direction (either all up or all down). Place the hexagon template on the strip set with the blunted edge at the top and the bottom ruler edge at the bottom; cut out a wedge (see Diagram 2). Flip it over and continue cutting until you have reached the end of the strip-set. This will yield 8 triangle wedges. Make 7 strip sets of 3 for 56 total (we use 50). page 2 (Cutting instructions continued on next page)
Cutting Instructions: (continued) 2. Pair together 3 wedges as shown in Diagram 3 (1 of Unit A and 2 of Unit B). Sew together, matching seams carefully. They will butt up against each other. Press these two seams OPEN. 3. Repeat for the bottom half of the Spiderweb Block, using 2 of Unit A and 1 of Unit B. Match seams and then press the new seams OPEN. 4. Sew the two half-hexagon halves together to form the Spiderweb block. Press center horizontal seam OPEN. Make 7 blocks. Set aside 8 wedges for diamonds. 5. Fold light background fabric strips (6-1/2" x wof) into 22" x wof, wrong sides together. Use Template B and align the vertical line as shown and cut out the halfrectangle setting triangles as shown. Cut a total of 6 doubles (6 Template B, 6 Template B-Reversed) Use Template A and cut 16 triangles as shown. Now it’s time to assemble! Quilt Top Assembly: 1. Sewing Rows 1 & 3: Sew two Spiderweb blocks with the full triangles and press as shown. Sew 2 pieced triangles to form a diamond. Make two. Join with background print triangles. Add the last half rectangles to the ends. Press the seams toward the triangles and half-rectangles. Make two of these rows. page 3 (Quilt top assembly continued on next page)
