Nature around
the corner
As many know, Hestra is not only
the name of our company, it is also
the name of the community where
our grandfather Martin Magnusson
started his business back in 1936.
For 75 years, our company has been
right here, with the ski hill Isaberg
around the corner and miles of
forest in every direction.
Nature and the people that call the
highlands of Småland home are what
characterize our company. Initially,
Hestra sold work gloves for forestry
workers and and farmers who
spent most of their lives outdoors
working with their hands. They
needed heavy-duty gloves, and in the
wintertime they needed protection
against the cold and snow. Winters in
Hestra tend to be long and snowy.
Skiing has also been a natural part
of life in Hestra, both downhill and
cross-country. In the 1930s, Hestra
was called Småland’s Åre, in reference
to Sweden’s largest ski resort,
and now attracts tens of thousands
of skiers to the slopes at Isaberg
every winter. Our grandfather,
Martin realized early on that skiers
also need durable and warm gloves.
Today, the technical possibilities are
much greater, but we carry with us
his drive for quality and most often
use materials like leather and wool.
We want sustainability to characterize
not only our products, but
also our entire company. Our business
is environmentally certified
and the next generation is active
within the company. They are the
fourth generation of Magnussons
since our beginning in 1936.
This years Glove Guide will explain
how the company has evolved
over the decades. We will introduce
you to the people who live and work
in Hestra. We provide advice about
gloves and the hands, as well as offer
some tips on our favorite places.
