Thank you for your many sacrifices and generosity.
The children have shared these “Good Deeds for God”, and they
are exactly as the children presented them. Regrettably, space
does not permit us to share all of the “deeds” submitted.
FROM THE PASTOR ...
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Each year through her Sacred Liturgy, holy Mother Church commemorates the mystery of our Lord’s redemptive Incarnation from
beginning to end. From Advent to Easter we celebrate the mysteries in the life of our Sovereign Lord as He dwelt among us, submitting
His divine and eternal self to the frailty of our human flesh; and from Pentecost to the Feast of Christ the King, we begin the yearly celebration
of the life of the Church, the Spouse of Christ who has received the fullness of His merits and graces to offer them to her children
in every age.
Therefore we see that from December to June we reflect upon the Life of our Lord and from June to December we reflect upon the Life
of the Church. At the very center of this, or cor, is the heart of the Liturgical Year. The month of June is most fittingly consecrated to the
Sacred Heart of Jesus. This Heart is the object of divine charity, containing within It the infinite love of God for fallen mankind. This love
created us, this love merited us salvation, and this love redeems us by the Church.
This June marks the one year anniversary of our new parish dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In this short time we have received
so many blessings from the infinite treasury of our Lord’s divine Heart. In thanksgiving for these bountiful blessings and to give glory to
Almighty God, our parish began a Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus this past Friday. Following a custom established at St. Margaret
Mary Parish, we will have the Novena following our Friday 12:10 Mass. We invite you to participate in this beautiful prayer. We will also
begin home Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You will find more information about this religious ceremony on page 6 of this
bulletin.
To conclude this month, we will have a Solemn Celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Patronal Feast of our Parish.
This celebration will be at all of the Masses the weekend of July second and third, culminating with a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary
Form at five o’clock in the evening on Sunday the third followed by a procession and benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Let us rejoice in the Bountiful Love found in His Most Sacred Heart
and be thankful for His many blessing to our parish and to each and every one of us.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the Solemn Procession of the Blessed Sacrament following our Mass at eleven thirty
on the Feast of Corpus Christi (June twenty-sixth). This was a wonderful custom of St. Gregory the Great brought to our new parish.
We hope that many of our children of this year’s First Communion and Confirmation Classes, our Altar Servers, Knights of Columbus,
Women’s Guild and the many other groups of our parish will be able to participate.
I would like to congratulate our young people who received the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Lennon last Sunday. Let us
remember them in our prayers as they strive to live out the Faith in their daily lives.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to ask all of you to remember Father Winkel in your prayers. Father is celebrating forty years
of Priestly Service to the Church. It is a blessing to have him at our parish.
May God’s blessings be yours this Easter Season.
Children’s Scripture Corner
Before Jesus went back to heaven, he gave his friends a very special job - to share the good news! Jesus came so that the whole world
could be saved, and He did not want anyone to be left out. Now it's your turn to tell your friends about Jesus, so they can go to heaven,
too.
Prayer: “Jesus, show me how to tell my friends about you.”
Something to Draw: Draw a picture of yourself telling a friend about Jesus.
Mission for the Week: Invite a friend over to play. Ask your friend if she or he would like to come to church with you.
ASCENSION OF THE LORD
MASS INTENTIONS ... REFLECTION ON THE SCRIPTURES ...
THIS WEEK’S READINGS ...
The Broadway musical, Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, is
filled with high-flying aerial stunts that astounded audiences when
they worked correctly. A significant part of the buzz surrounding
the production, with its music by Bono and Edge, comes from the
fact that the spectacular aerial displays don't always work. Actors
have ended up being suspended in midair while stage crews hastened
to untangle cables and pulleys. Sometimes, instead of Spiderman
flying through the air with the greatest of ease, he ends
up hanging helplessly above the stage.
From Icarus to NASA, people have imagined ways of leaving
the earth. Watching birds soar aloft has provoked our imaginations
into thinking that we too could one day lift ourselves to the
heavens. The Scriptures for the feast of the Ascension leave us
with the same vision as Jesus was lifted up in a cloud. Two men
in white ask the apostles, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing
there looking at the sky?"
As the Gospel for today reminds us, we are given a great
commission: to make disciples of all nations, baptizing people and
teaching them to observe what Jesus has commanded. We are
not spectators like the audience at a Broadway musical, looking
up to see what might happen. We are, instead, actors, taking our
roles in the great story of salvation history. The commission Jesus
gives in the Gospel is not only addressed to the eleven disciples
who gathered with him on a mountain in Galilee. That commission
is given to all of us, to go out into the world and to make disciples.
Much of the language during this Easter season has an upward
movement. Now Christ has commanded us to lift up others so
they may be raised to new life in him.
Ascension of the Lord
ADORATION CORNER ...
Worthy reception of the Body and Blood of our
Lord is a foretaste and pledge of Heaven. We
should joyfully and fervently advance in awe towards
the altar when we receive our Lord and
Savior. The Eucharist is continuously adorable—during Mass and
outside of Mass in the Adoration Chapel through Spiritual Communion.
We are drawn closer to Jesus by spending time with Him as we
sincerely seek to be changed into His image and likeness. The
cherished practice of Spiritual Communion invites the Lord into
our souls.
Let us participate in our Corpus Christi Procession on June 26
following the 11:30 a.m. Mass.

FESTIVAL NEWS ...
… and if you are a registered member of our parish ... YOURS
can be found in the back of the church where tables have been
set up for the trays which contain envelopes of tickets. Envelopes
are arranged in alpha order by last name. Please, won’t you be
kind enough to take yours and those of family, friends or
neighbors. Last year we spent over $800 mailing tickets which
were not picked up. We would like to avoid those mailing costs
this year if possible.
Next weekend after all of the Masses, there will be tables set up
in the back of the church with volunteers ready to help you decide
which booth and which time slot you will offer to work at the Festival,
July 14-17. As you can imagine, with nearly 1,140 man-hours
to cover if we have just one volunteer/booth (20 booths x 57 hours
of operation) we will need several hundred volunteers. Would it
be too much to say … We need every able-bodied adult to
offer a few hours over the 4 days of the Festival??? Can we
count on you??
PLEASE ... stop at the back of the Church and see how you
can help out to make this another successful Festival.
SACRED HEART OF JESUS
HOME ENTHRONEMENT AND
ATHLETIC CLUB NEWS ...
FAMILY CONSECRATION
What is the Enthronement Ceremony?
The Enthronement ceremony is fittingly led by a priest. Having
blessed the image of the Sacred Heart, he carries it to the place
of the Enthronement, accompanied by all the members of the
household, carrying lighted candles. He places the image in its
place of honor, while the whole household then recites the Litany
of the most Sacred Heart and the Act of Consecration as a family.
The intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of the
family, is then invoked. Afterwards, the priest blesses the family.
How to prepare for the Enthronement
The day of the Enthronement should be one of the outstanding
events of the family life. The better and more serious the
preparation for the Enthronement, the greater will be the
blessings on the family coming from this important occasion.
The spiritual preparation may consist in making a novena by reciting
together a a family the Litany of the Sacred Heart and a beautiful
preparatory prayer. It is also highly recommended that each
member of the family receive the Sacraments of Penance and the
Holy Eucharist during the novena.
The family should try to obtain as beautiful a picture, an icon, or
a statue of the Sacred Heart as possible. The place of the
Enthronement should be a central place in the home, a
permanent place of beauty and dignity which should reflect
the great reverence and love which we have for Our Lord.
Below the place of honor reserved for the statue or picture, a
“throne” or “altar”, that is to say, a table (or perhaps the mantelpiece)
covered with a white cloth, should be beautifully decorated
with candles and flowers. The greater the solemnity, the
better. It is good to invite relatives and friends to participate in
the ceremony, which may be followed by some refreshments and
social time allowing others to learn more about the importance of
this devotion for a holy, happy family life.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Athletic Club will hold an open meeting
on Tuesday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the PFC. All parents of
athletes and other parishioners are welcome to attend.
Topics for discussion will include a wrap up of this school year's
athletic activities and planning for the 2011 Fall Sports season.
We are also looking for any interested parents and/or parishioners
who may want to get involved with the Athletic Club and offer their
support to our athletes.
ASCENSION OF THE LORD
to turn in their baby bottles, we wish to inform you that
we will continue to accept your donations at the Parish Office
for one more week.
Remember … all funds collected will help Womankind to provide
free prenatal care and a full-range of support services
