Muzaffer Hiçdurmaz, born in Eskişehir in 1944, is one of the vivid and
wise personalities of Yeşilçam. With Çark, the only film he directed
Hiçdurmaz depicted the working conditions of workers in an unindustrialized
country in such a powerful way that the workers went on a
strike after seeing the film. He is a set worker who had been to film sets
of masters such as Pasolini and Kazan, a leader who assumed active
roles in the Union of Cinema Workers (SINE-SEN) and an educator
who teaches the technical details of cinema at Müjdat Gezen Art Center.
He is a very disciplined, and at the same time, a very kind-hearted
figure of cinema.
Hiçdurmaz comes from Eskişehir to Istanbul at the age of 7 and becomes
a part of Yeşilçam at 14. He does not continue his studies after
secondary education. He works as a camera operator until 1962 and
steps into film sets after this year. After being fired from the set when
working for Üç Tekerlekli Bisiklet, he meets the director Ömer Lütfi
Akad and continues his career with him. Keen on adventures, Hiçdurmaz
works in all films of the series of Tarkan, excluding one film,
Malkoçoğlu, Karaoğlan Geliyor and Battalgazi. He rides horses and
directs fights. He has to cope with many difficulties when shooting the
film Yol (The Road). Although he is tried with Şerif Gören in the court,
he finds the soldiers required for the film by persuading the commanders
in Urfa and Diyarbakır.
Having read the books he borrowed from Ömer Lütfi Akad again and
again, Hiçdurmaz today transfers his knowledge from these books and
experience from film sets to students.
