2009 TCBC Annual Leader Forum:
TCBC Ride Leaders, mark your
calendars. This year's Leader Forum for
all current Ride Leaders will be held on
Monday evening, April 6th, from 6:30
- 8:30 at the Shoreview Community
Center. If you plan on leading any
rides this year, your attendance is
critical. Many very important issues
and changes will be discussed, so we
hope that you will make every effort to
be there.

My sincerest gratitude:
I'd like to thank the many people of
TCBC who have given me support and
encouragement during the last year. It
was a tough one. During times like
these, when you are unable to join
your comrades for long periods, you
feel disconnected and it's difficult to
come back. I'm looking forward to
getting back on Pearl and once again
joining my friends who have kept me
motivated. Hopefully I can pay it

DAVID GEPNER was highlighted plus a
photo in the recent AARP BULLETIN
and was quoted: “You get to know
your neighbors when you’re out
walking or biking. You don’t feel so
isolated in your home.”
EXHIBIT: You already know that bikes

MINNESOTA TRAFFIC STATS: Less
people died in our roads in 2008 than
any year since the 1940’s. Higher gas
prices probably meant motorists were
driving less and more slowly. There
were 4 bicyclists killed in Minnesota in
2007 and 12 last year.

TCBC ANNUAL MEETING NEWS: The
four new Board members elected in
November were Richard Franco, Cindy
Hanson, Patt Seleen, and Jack
Uttermark. Laurie Holm was reelected.
(Since then, the Board has
selected Mary Derks to begin her
second year as President, Patt Seleen
as Vice President, and Laurie as
Secretary.) The meeting had around
140 attending, our largest ever. Was
the free dinner a factor or what?
COMFORTABLY PASSED: The Clean
Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment
to the Minnesota Constitution did pass
with 58 percent of the vote. This will
provide millions of dollars to parks and
trails in particular, if the economy and
the state budget will make that
possible.
LAB LIST OF THE BEST BICYCLING
STATES IN THE U.S. has Washington
first, Wisconsin second, and Minnesota
fifth. 70 factors were evaluated. Our
League of American Bicyclists listing
included: “... Minnesota further strives
to protect and promote cyclists
through its model Share the Road
campaign. The state also has a policy
requiring bike parking at state
buildings, as well as state funding for
the installation of bike racks.”
YOUR EDITOR needed to buy a new
computer in December and is probably

TCBC has a new message board – IP.
Board, a message board hosted by
Invision Power Services (IPS). The
changeover is the result of MSN’s
discontinuance of their message
board. IP.Board was chosen based on
its features, posting options,
administration tools, security features,
and help/support. For additional

a very tall frame, for someone about
6'4" or taller. Shimano and Campy
components, Brand New rims, spokes,
and front hub, recently built and
ridden 1/2 mile. Rear hub is used, but
in excellent shape. Headset is not
pitted and is smooth as silk. The frame
tracks straight and is a sweet ride.

This is approximately 27 inches).
Includes Campy Super Record Headset

The 43rd Minnesota Ironman Bike Ride
returns to Lakeville, MN. We offer
routes of 30, 65 (not 62) or 100 miles.
We have changed both long routes in
2009. You will find the route maps on
our website. The split for these routes
will now take place at the 22-mile mark
in Jordan. Considering Ironman
weekend weather challenges, that is a
nice change.
Hostelling International-Minnesota
organizes and hosts the Ironman Ride.
TCBC serves as co-sponsor and partner.
You can even renew your TCBC
membership through your Ironman
