“
I really enjoyed class last night and I learned a
lot! Last summer I had taken classes out of town
and came away not learning half as much as I did
last night. I am thrilled I am actually learning how
to really use my camera other than wimping out
and using the preset features. I hope you continue
to keep us updated on future classes, I would like to
take others when possible.”
Meet Douglas Nelson
Douglas Nelson began his career in massage
therapy in 1977 and is the founder of NMT
MidWest, Inc. providing workshops in Precision
Neuromuscular Therapy. He is the president of
BodyWork Associates, a sixteen therapist massage
therapy clinic in Champaign, IL which has been in
operation since 1982.
Doug has treated thousands of clients over
the years, from the NBA to the NFL, factory
workers, and high level musicians who suffer
musculoskeletal pain. Doug is also a regular
columnist for Massage and Bodywork magazine
and is author of the book Table Lessons: Insights
in the Practice of Massage Therapy. His new book
entitled The Mystery of Pain will be out soon.
NEW! The Mystery Of Pain
How well do we really understand the process of pain and
what it means? In the old model, pain was a messenger, a
prompt to make us stop some potentially harmful activity.
The problem is, this model does not really explain phantom
limb pain, chronic tension headaches, or a terrible cancer
that has no pain until it is too late. Join Doug Nelson,
founder of Precision Neuromuscular Therapy as he discusses
one of the most exciting fields of study in health care today.
This presentation will give you a renewed understanding of
how the brain works, sensory processing and how to translate
directly to the treatment table. While the process is fun
and entertaining, the implications to clinical practice are
profound. Approved by NCBTMB for 3 CE hours for massage
NEW! Meditation For Coping With A Frantic
World!
Hundreds of studies over four decades now confirm that regular
practice of medication can reduce high blood pressure and lead
to increased feelings of relaxed self-control and better mood.
Recent studies indicate it can also improve clinical depression
meditation practice also develops acceptance and deepens
wisdom. This 8-week course will help establish the mental skills
and practice necessary to experience the many health benefits
now scientifically documented. You will choose from several
medication techniques, one or two which are best for you. There
will be ample times for practice, discussion and ways of handling
NEW! Fall Covered Bridge Festival & Tour
NEW! This Land Is Made For You & Me
In the 1800’s
covered bridges
were practical due
to the abundance
of timber, but why
did they cover
them? They were
covered to protect
the floorboards
along with the fact that the horses did not like to cross the open
bridges where they could see and hear the rushing water. There
just happens to be a select number of these precious pieces of
heritage still standing. With a total of 31 covered bridges, our
destination is Parke County Indiana, “Covered Bridge Capital
of the World”. Upon arrival, you will get some free time to
explore all the festival sights and sounds around the courthouse
(lunch on your own at this time). After plenty of time to stretch
our legs, we’ll reboard and meet up with our guide for the
afternoon to visit 5-6 covered bridges in the area. Not only will
we get to enjoy the beautiful fall colors, but we’ll learn about
the history and construction of covered bridges along with
local legends and lore. Also, if you enjoy shopping then you
will also love our stop on the tour in historic Bridgeton where
there is an authentic old mill along with shops and festival
Take time out to celebrate our Veterans and our regions
culture with a daytrip to the Iowa Veteran’s Museum and
the John Deere Tractor Assembly Plant in Waterloo, Iowa.
While at the Veteran’s Museum you will learn about the five
Sullivan Brothers. They all enlisted in the Navy together
after a good friend of theirs was killed in action. The
brothers were granted permission to all serve together on the
same ship. Unfortunately, their ship went down in battle and
these brothers were lost at sea. This museum honors these
brothers as well as all veterans from Civil War to present
day conflicts with interactive exhibits, oral histories and war
time memorabilia. After lunch at the museum (included)
we will head toward the only location in North America that
manufactures the big green tractors. During WWI John
Deere played an instrumental role in the production of war
wagons, carts, and other equipment for the allied forces.
During WWII, old production lines were converted and new
ones built as factories mobilized to produce ammunition,
wagons, airplane components, and tank transmissions.
When we arrive at the tractor assembly, we will view a film on
the history of John Deere and afterwards board a trolley that
will take us through the complete manufacturing process.
