PED 345. Athletic Training Clinical<br />

Evaluation I<br />

3 credits<br />

Instruction in gait and posture analysis, clinical<br />

anatomy, evaluation techniques and problemsolving<br />

approaches to recognize lower extremity<br />

injuries and skin disorders. Course content will<br />

be based upon the assessment and evaluation<br />

content area focusing on the lower extremity and<br />

skin disorders. <strong>St</strong>udents will learn to perform<br />

evaluations, begin developing treatment plans<br />

and properly document injury notes.<br />

Prerequisites: Admittance to Athletic Training<br />

program, BIOL 202, 204, PED 215.<br />

PED 346. Athletic Training Clinical<br />

Evaluation II<br />

3 credits<br />

Instruction in posture analysis, clinical anatomy,<br />

evaluation techniques and problem solving<br />

approaches to recognize upper extremity, thoracic<br />

abdominal, head and face injuries. <strong>St</strong>udents<br />

will learn to perform evaluations, begin developing<br />

treatment plans and properly document<br />

injury notes. Prerequisites: Admittance to Athletic<br />

Training program BIOL 202, 204, PED 215.<br />

PED 350. Scientific Principles of <strong>St</strong>rength<br />

and Conditioning<br />

2 credits<br />

This course will introduce the scientific principles<br />

based on science knowledge obtained in BIOL<br />

202 and BIOL 204. Emphasis within this course<br />

will focus on the scientific principles of strength<br />

and conditioning and on optimizing human performance<br />

in an aerobic state. Critical reading and<br />

scientific writing will be required for student to<br />

incorporate aerobic exercise principles into a<br />

variety of training modes. Prerequisites: A “C” or<br />

better in BIOL 202, 204, WI-PED 364, 390.<br />

WI-PED 361. Kinesiology<br />

3 credits<br />

The study of skeletal and muscular systems of the<br />

body as related to motion. Analysis of muscle<br />

function in performance of physical education<br />

activities.<br />

PED 363. Legal Aspects of Sport 2 credits<br />

Legal aspects related to sport, sport facilities,<br />

programs, and personnel; including tort law, liabilities<br />

and negligence.<br />

PED 390. Exercise Physiology 3 credits<br />

Physiological changes and adaptation corresponding<br />

to exercise, the benefits of various types<br />

of training and the factors which affect physiological<br />

function during exercise such as nutrition,<br />

age, disease, gender and the environment.<br />

PED 391. Clinical Athletic Training IIA 1 credit<br />

Emphasis in Clinical Athletic Training II is placed<br />

greater independence while maintaining close<br />

supervision of the student athletic trainer. Clinic<br />

instructors are urged to develop proactive behaviors<br />

by the student athletic trainer. Clinical<br />

instructors are aware of the level of competence<br />

the student athletic trainer has and expects the<br />

satisfactory performance of these skills. Further,<br />

the clinical instructor realizes the importance of<br />

evaluating the skills that are being learned<br />

throughout the year in PED 345 Evaluation:<br />

Lower Extremity and PED 348 Evaluation:<br />

Upper Extremity. Each clinical instructor places<br />

emphasis on satisfactory completion of these<br />

skills. Requirements: Admittance to Athletic<br />

Training program, PED 215.<br />

PED 392. Clinical Athletic Training lIB 1 credit<br />

This is the fourth course in the sequence of<br />

Clinical Athletic Training experiences. Emphasis<br />

in Clinical Athletic Training IlB is placed greater<br />

independence while maintaining close supervision<br />
