Individual Career Needs Courses<br />

MBA 700. Entrepreneurship and Small Business<br />

Management<br />

3 credits<br />

This course is designed to trace the entrepreneurial<br />

process from the initial idea through business<br />

operations to the harvest. It is organized into<br />

four parts: (1) The Entrepreneurial Process; (2)<br />

Evaluating Opportunity and Developing the<br />

Business Concept; (3) Assessing and Acquiring<br />

Resources; and (4) Managing and Harvesting the<br />

Venture. Cases are extensively used throughout<br />

the course. Prerequisites: None.<br />

MBA 710. Business Ethics<br />

3 credits<br />

A study of the basic concepts of ethics as typically<br />

referred to in western civilization and a testing<br />

of the basic hypotheses of the concepts. Through<br />

formal lecturing, case studies, from dialogue, and<br />

with the help of guest lecturers, working premises,<br />

assumptions, and principles regarding business<br />

ethics are analyzed. Delivery of a case study<br />

required. Prerequisites: None.<br />

MBA 715. Executive Management<br />

Seminar/Selected Topics<br />

3 credits<br />

Specially selected courses are introduced into the<br />

program at appropriate times to meet student<br />

needs. Prerequisites: None.<br />

MBA 721. Labor Management<br />

Partnerships<br />

3 credits<br />

Pertinent topics involving workers, management,<br />

and their common goals; development of<br />

improved labor/management relations; identifying<br />

risks involved in implementing successful<br />

labor/management relations; recognizing barriers<br />

to proposed improvements; insights into the<br />

structure and responsibilities of unions; and<br />

understanding corporate organization charts and<br />

their implications. Prerequisites: None.<br />

MBA 730. International Management<br />

Environment<br />

3 credits<br />

This course is designed to provide the student<br />

with an understanding of the challenging new<br />

international environment in which American<br />

business must operate. The course examines in<br />

turn: patterns of international interdependence;<br />

international trade; foreign exchange; international<br />

monetary system; balance of payments and<br />

international debt; foreign investment and multinational<br />

corporations; and the effect of culture<br />

upon doing business abroad. Prerequisites: MBA<br />

526 or permission of instructor.<br />

Concentrations<br />

Many students opt for the Management<br />

Generalist program, consisting of 15 courses (45<br />

credit hours). However, there are four concentrations<br />

offered only at the main campus, requiring<br />

a student to take 17 courses (51 credit hours).<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents electing a basic concentration are<br />

required to take the same thirteen specified graduate<br />

courses plus the four respective courses listed<br />

in the catalog – consequently, no individual<br />

career needs courses are taken. The concentrations<br />

are Finance, Human Resource Management,<br />

Marketing, Management Information<br />

Systems and Technology Management.<br />

Finance Concentration<br />

MBA 750. Financial Policy and<br />

Decision Making<br />

3 credits<br />

Analyzes financial management through case<br />

study and a prescribed set of readings. Teaches<br />

the identification and evaluation of financial<br />

problems and the weighing of feasible solutions<br />

in order to recommend the “best” course of<br />

action. Special emphasis will be on decision making<br />

and policy formulation involving allocation<br />

of capital, planning of capital spending for longand<br />

short-run, capital budgeting problems, mergers<br />

and acquisitions, and cost of capital.<br />
