Tutoring<br />

The tutoring program is available to all<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> students at no cost (see full description<br />

under <strong>St</strong>udent Success Center).<br />

Admissions<br />

Undergraduate Admission Requirements<br />

Admission as a Freshman<br />

A. Full Admission<br />

Individuals are eligible for admission to<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> as a freshman if they<br />

meet the following requirements:<br />

1. Have a cumulative grade point average of<br />

2.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited<br />

high school.<br />

AND EITHER<br />

2. Have a composite score of 20 or above on<br />

the American College Testing Program<br />

(ACT) or a 950 or above on the Scholastic<br />

Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Board.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who graduated from high school<br />

five or more years ago do not need to supply<br />

ACT or SAT scores.<br />

OR<br />

3. Graduate in the upper half of their senior<br />

class.<br />

B. Provisional Admission<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents who are ineligible for full admission<br />

because they do not meet the above standards<br />

may be <strong>admit</strong>ted on a provisional basis.<br />

Minimum requirements for this provisional<br />

status include a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0<br />

non-weighted system and a score of 16 on the<br />

ACT or 770 on the SAT. Though this minimum<br />

requirement was not stated in the<br />

1997–1999 and 1999–2001 catalogs, it is a<br />

continual requirement for provisional admission.<br />

The academic progress of provisional<br />

students is monitored each semester by the<br />

Board of <strong>St</strong>udies.<br />

C. Petition Process<br />

Applicants not meeting the minimum criteria<br />

for either category above may petition the<br />

Admissions <strong>St</strong>andards Committee. More information<br />

on this process is available from the<br />

Admissions Office.<br />

D. Health History<br />

All undergraduate students are required to<br />

have on file in the Health Services Office a<br />

properly completed health form which<br />

includes a health history, a physical examination<br />

by a physician, nurse practitioner, physician’s<br />

assistant or any other primary health<br />

care provider and immunization dates. This<br />

information is confidential and is available<br />

only to the Director of Health Services.<br />

Release of any health information requires the<br />

student’s signature.<br />

E. Placement Tests<br />

All undergraduate students are required to fulfill<br />

the following place ment procedures:<br />

Reading placement–<strong>St</strong>udents with and ACT<br />

reading score of 19 or lower will be required<br />

to take LS 100; take a writing placement test;<br />

Math Skills Requirement–1) Test into MATH<br />

191 on the Functions and Graphs Placement<br />

Test; or 2) Have a Math ACT subscore of 23<br />

AND have completed a high school math<br />

course through Analysis of Pre-Calculus or<br />

Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry; or 3)<br />

Score 50 or higher on the College Algebra<br />

CLEP exam.<br />

Admission as a Transfer<br />

A. Full Admission<br />

Transfer students are eligible for admission to<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> if they meet the following<br />

requirements:<br />

1. Have submitted official transcripts from an<br />

accredited high school or GED program,<br />
