Creating the Future at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong><br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> is an independent, coeducational<br />

Catholic university offering four-year<br />

undergraduate programs in the liberal arts, preprofessional<br />

and career-oriented programs, master’s<br />

programs and a doctoral program in business<br />

administration.<br />

Founded in 1882 by the Diocese of<br />

<strong>Davenport</strong>, <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> is rich in tradition<br />

and strong in stature. Its Catholic character<br />

is expressed in its people and its programs, as<br />

well as in its ecumenical perspective and record<br />

of service.<br />

It is located in <strong>Davenport</strong>, <strong>Iowa</strong>, one of the<br />

Quad Cities which line the shores of an east-west<br />

stretch of the Mississippi River joining Eastern<br />

<strong>Iowa</strong> and <strong>West</strong>ern Illinois. With a population of<br />

more than 100,000, <strong>Davenport</strong> is the largest<br />

municipality in a metropolitan area of 400,000.<br />

The <strong>University</strong>’s structure, which was effective<br />

July 1, 1987, consists of three separate colleges:<br />

the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of<br />

Business, and the College of Human Services.<br />

of the <strong>University</strong>’s contractual undertakings.<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> reserves the right in its sole judgment<br />

to make changes of any nature in its program,<br />

calendar, academic schedule, or charges<br />

whenever it is deemed necessary or desirable.<br />

This right includes changes in course content,<br />

rescheduling classes with or without extending<br />

the academic term, canceling scheduled classes<br />

and other academic activities, and requiring or<br />

affording alternatives for scheduled classes or<br />

Recognition<br />

<strong>St</strong>. <strong>Ambrose</strong> <strong>University</strong> is accredited at the undergraduate<br />

and graduate levels by the North<br />

Central Association of Colleges and Schools<br />

(since 1927), the <strong>Iowa</strong> Department of Public<br />

Instruction, American Occupational Therapy<br />

Association, Inc., Commission for the<br />

Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education,<br />

Association of Collegiate Business Schools and<br />

Programs, Accreditation Board for Engineering<br />

and Technology, and Council on Social Work<br />

Education. Athletic Training is seeking accreditation<br />

through CAHAE; and Orthotic Science is<br />

seeking accreditation through NCOPE. It holds<br />

membership in the Association of Catholic<br />

Colleges and Universities, the American Council<br />

on Education, American Association of Colleges<br />

for Teacher Education, the Council of<br />

Independent Colleges, the Association for<br />

Continuing Higher Education, the<br />

Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges, and the<br />

National Association of Independent Colleges<br />
