General Information FALL 2013 What’s New NEW PROGRAMS Graphic Design Entrepreneur I Skills Competency Award (16 units) This certificate provides the student with a foundation in graphic design and an understanding of the digital design process. The certificate also includes courses to develop entrepreneurial skills necessary to become a successful freelance designer. Graphic Design Entrepreneur II Skills Competency Award (16 units) This certificate builds on the Graphic Design Entrepreneurial I program. It continues to provide the student with strong graphic design skills to develop a professional portfolio. Entrepreneurial skills are expanded on giving the student the necessary tools to become successful in managing their own design business. WEEK “0” Human Anatomy The Week “0” event for Human Anatomy (Biomedical Sciences 107) is an opportunity for registered students, or students who are interested in enrolling in BMS 107, to get a ‘head start’ and prepare for the first two weeks of the semester. Through interaction with professors and tutors, activities, and handout materials, attendees learn valuable techniques and are provided course materials they need in order to successfully navigate the first two weeks of the semester in this time and labor intensive course. In August, students enrolled should watch for an email to their Pipeline accounts regarding meeting place and time for Week “0” activities. 6
General Information What’s New GDP215 Publication Design Print and publishing no longer means just ink on paper. Graphic designers are now designing for mobile media. This class uses Adobe InDesign CS6 and the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to produce interactive publications for the iPad. Techniques taught include: building panoramas, pan and zoom images, incorporating video and audio, animation, linking to online content and other interactive functions. Students design their own magazine that is then uploaded and viewed on the iPad. Knowledge of InDesign software is necessary. Owning an iPad is not required. This course focuses on the role of festivals in the film market place, emergence of new filmmakers, national cinemas, and the practice of writing film criticism. Film screenings supplemented by lectures, discussions, readings and panel discussions. Fee required; contact Nico Maestu (nmaestu@pipeline.sbcc.edu) for information. A TAG is a contractual agreement between you, SBCC and a four-year institution. Students who meet and maintain stated admission and major requirements are guaranteed admission to a specific four-year college or university. TAG schools and SBCC understand that goals change.
