Synergies offer special adva ntages for our customers
Progress based on Tradition
The SCHERDEL Group has been a leading
Company for more than 100 years in the manufacture
of engineering springs and the maintenance
of the necessary expertise. The first Diesel
engines were equipped with SCHERDEL springs.
Since then, as a leading spring supplier,
SCHERDEL has been on the move. Successes of
motor-bikes and racing cars in international competitions
can be seen as successes for
SCHERDEL valve springs. Creativity and striving
for innovation are key-words of this European
Group of Companies, which, however, operates
on a world-wide basis and is still managed by
the family of its founder Sigmund Scherdel. New
technologies are employed to enable growth
now a significant part of our production. Part of
our technical service is the design and calculation
of springs for individual applications, taking
account of functional tolerances. The SCHERDEL
"Federfibel" or Spring Handbook contains everything
worth knowing about design, testing materials
and surface treatment of springs. Our
research and development experience is also
used in machinery construction within the Group.
Customer benefits with the
SCHERDEL Group
• Our highly competent innovation teams work
across divisional boundaries
• Modern manufacturing equipment and high productivity
special machinery were developed inhouse
and built within the Group
• Savings in cost and time are achieved by use of
tooling made within the Group
• Flexible manufacturing and up-to-date quality
management ensure prompt deliveries
• From initial development to the final product our
thoughts and actions are customer-oriented.
The synergy effects of the SCHERDEL Group are
best illustrated in sub-assemblies. The total
expertise, research and development, tooling and
machinery and manufacturing technology of the
Group flow together in one project. Our customers
profit from these synergy effects thanks to the
selection of the best raw materials, the best application
of these materials through modern calculation
methods and the support on-site of our application
engineers.
and rationalisation.
"Progress based on tradition" is the motto of the
SCHERDEL Group who always wants to have a
predominant technological position on the market.
Customers benefit from the long experience of our
project teams consisting of design and application
engineers for all aspects of spring technology and
manufacture. Our products, which are produced
at optimum cost and quality levels, are reliable
problem-solvers.
For research in application technology
SCHERDEL built up its own R+D Department.
In scientific research projects this specialist
Division closely cooperates with Engineering
Schools and Universities. The day-to-day work of
our Laboratory is the detection of surface defects
in wire with our X-Ray defractometer or scanning
electron microscope.
The SOF process, invented and developed by
SCHERDEL for stress-optimised springs, is
Engineering springs – flexible problem solvers for various applications
Valve springs
Compressions springs
are highly stressed springs for combustion
engines. In the manufacture of valve springs the
SCHERDEL Group has decades of experience,
together with exceptional competence in design.
In quality and price / performance aspects, our
Company is amongst the leaders in Europe.
Valve springs are made from round or oval wire
of 2 to 8 mm diameter.
are manufactured, cold formed, from wire of 0,1
to 16 mm diameter. In addition to round wire, oval,
trapezoidal and rectangular wire may be used.
High precision springs made by SCHERDEL are
not only used in automotive applications
In automobile manufacturing, compression
springs of highest precision are also used for fine
tuning of the chassis.
(transmission, ABS and fuel injection) but also in
measurement and control devices (valves and
pumps) and in the electrical and electronic industries
for applications such as switchgears.
SCHERDEL – expertise in de sign and more than 100 years of experience in spring production
Tension springs
Torsion springs
Retractor, constant force and
spiral springs
are produced, cold formed, from wire of 0,1 to
16 mm diameter. Loops are generally produced
according to DIN 2097. Manufacture of tension
springs with extended loops and special forms is
also possible.
SCHERDEL tension springs are used in braking
systems, screen washers, garage doors and
household equipment.
For these springs, round wire of 0,1 to 6 mm
diameter and rectangular wire is used.
Applications are in pedal gears for accelerators
and also in fuel injectors as well as in window
blinds and cupboard rollers in the furniture industry.
Special designs for throttle body adjustment
in engines are produced from multi-wire with
with a strip thickness of 0,035 to 6 mm and a strip
width of 2 to 70 mm. These versatile problemsolvers
are used in vehicle safety belt systems,
cable drum retractors, refuse containers and high
performance switchgears, also in cupboards with
roller doors.
welded ends.
Disc springs
manufactured to DIN 2093, springs are made in
non-standard dimensions also. Special designs
and spring washers to DIN 6796 and DIN 6908
are available.
