Welcome

Schulich’s new MBA specialization in Global Mining Management

will be unique in the world and will position our graduates to

become leaders in the mining industry in the decades ahead.

What better place to host this specialization than at one of the

world’s leading business schools, located in the heart of one of

the world’s leading countries when it comes to mining. Canada has

a long history of mining and a depth of expertise that exists not

only in the mining companies but also in the banks, legal firms,

and engineering and consulting companies that service the sector.

All this experience and knowledge is at our doorstep and will be

tapped to provide an educational experience that will position

our graduates for the many job opportunities that exist in mining

companies globally as well as within the service-related mining

sector companies.

Our curriculum will be supplemented with experiences outside

the classroom, including attendance at industry events, strategic

consulting reports carried out at mining companies, and mine site

visits and internships that will give our students hands-on exposure

to the industry.

I urge you to consider the many benefits of this unique program

offered by a business school that is truly global, innovative and

renowned for incorporating sustainability in its business programs.

What Industry Leaders Are Saying

“Today’s mining industry is facing a major human resources

shortage. But we need not only a lot of new employees, we need

young people with a well-rounded education, one that combines

a traditional curriculum with practical knowledge and experience,

such as that offered by the Schulich School of Business. It’s an

MBA with a difference.”

PIERRE GRATTON

President & CEO, Mining Association of Canada

“Expertise in both mining and finance is fundamental to the

effective management of mining companies, and the capital

markets businesses that service them. However, up until now there

have been no business schools that have produced graduates who

have this fundamental combination of skills. I applaud Schulich

for being the first to recognize this market opportunity and

expect their graduates will be in demand not only in Canada

but globally as well.”

DAVID SCOTT

Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, Global Mining Group – CIBC

“This program will fill a key and widening gap in terms of the

development of present and future industry leaders the world over.

It will also provide a unique and powerful opportunity to have a

very positive impact for generations to come.”

JEAN VAVREK

Executive Director, The Canadian Institute of Mining,

Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM)

“This program will involve students in the complex issues that

mining companies currently face. This requires students to

understand and clearly articulate practical and relevant solutions

to both the challenges and opportunities presented to mining

companies globally.”

RICK MCCREARY

Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Barrick Gold Corporation

“I think it’s a great idea. As far as I know this is the first of its

kind in the world, and it’s appropriate that it’s being done

in Canada because mining continues to be the cornerstone of

the Canadian economy.”

Chairman, Goldcorp Inc.
