Hey lovelies! Two more months to go
before 2011 is officially over – how the hell
did that happen??? Nov has lots to offer
though. Firstly, I’d like to give a big birthday
shout out to my beautiful wife, who
celebrates her birthday on Fri 4th Nov! We
will be out partying in the city so feel free to
shower her in champagne (which she’ll give
to me as she doesn’t drink much!) There’s
still plenty of life left in 2011, and here’s just
a wee bit of what you can get involved in!
Hallowe’en is the word on everyone’s lips at
the moment – unless you’re a total loser,
you will of course have a fantastic outfit
lined up with parties a-plenty offering ‘best
costume’ prizes! Start off in the Blue Moon,
where they will be celebrating with their
usual style and finesse and one of the best
food menus on the scene. And calling all
affluent types, the Moon is up for sale! What
an awesome business opp – we need to
keep this one in the LGBT
community! Just don’t change
any of the staff as we love them
all!
Now anyone who’s been in
Edinburgh for more than five
minutes will know of the
fabulous Alan Joy, of Joy,
Regent and Nom de Plume
fame. He is famous for his
sailor beard, pea coat and bar
with lots of keys! So this news
is huge! Alan has decided to
join Movember and raise a bit
of money for prostate cancer awareness.
This involves having to grow a moustache.
‘No problem’ I hear you say; Alan already
‘bears’ a luxuriant amount of facial hair!
However in order to adhere to the rules, Alan
will have to start his beard from scratch!
Which means shaving off his existing beard
and moustache. Completely! This is a really
awesome thing he’s doing, and is a
monumental change – not to mention brave
in this sudden inclement climate!! So on
Mon 31st Oct, Alan will be ceremonially
removed of facial hair ready for the start of
Movember. This definitely requires a bit of
fanfare, and ScotsGay will be there with our
candid camera to record the event! Why not
come along for yourself to The Regent and
join in the fun, and donate a bit of cash to
this most worthwhile event? Time – well,
Alan has said it depends how long the hedge
trimmer takes to charge up!
Other big news at The Regent, they
have moved back the time of The World
Famous Regent Bar Quiz from 9pm til 8pm.
So from now on the quiz will start at 8pm,
which customer feedback stated suited
better. That means a 9.30pm finish for all
you early birds too! With free nibbles on
every table and a £50 food and drink
voucher up for grabs, you now have no
reason to miss this at all! Well, unless you’re
rehearsing with Loud and Proud next door!
Saturday Night Beaver has been taking
the scene by storm; a huge hit for the ladies
in the fabulous Cab Vol. The next one is on
Sat 19th Nov, with guaranteed promo drinks
and DJ Trendy Wendy and guest DJs
“Mamma D“ and “The Funky Diva“.

& Phunk’d Up, with Sun hosting monthly
nights from “Dirtee-Stop out“ on Sun 27th
Nov and new night, “Studio 100“, launching
on Sun 13th Nov.
Last month, we reported on
BearScotFest 2011, which saw nearly 500
bears and cubs from all over the world
partying in the city! The fest is the 3rd
biggest in Europe, and the guys who
attended commented on how friendly and
well organised the event was. A big
congrats to the winner of the Mr BearScots
comp, Ben! And the weekend also raised a
bunch of cash for very worthy
cause Gay Men’s Health.
BearScotFest were very proud to
hand over a cheque for £932.
Well done guys! Fantastic work!
Mumbo Jumbo features a
residents night on Sat 12th Nov
and then Sat 10th Dec. With a
HUGE Hogmanay Mumbo Jumbo
at The Bongo Club! Start making
plans now for this awesome New
Year’s Eve “Mumbo
Jumbo meets Headspin”.
Down at ElboW,
they have Movie Night on a Mon
with free popcorn! Tue nights are
quiz night, and Wed features a
burger and a cocktail at only £10
ALL DAY! Total bargain, especially
from the esteemed Elbow kitchen.
Every Fri is live music night at Elbow, with
an X-Factor party on Sat and Roast dinners
and open mic night on Sun nights! Spoilt for
choice with that fantastic line-up!
At the Newtown, their basement bar is
GayScene
now closed for the month as a
lovely new refurb goes
underway! But not to fear, their
upstairs main bar has lots going
on. ‘Friday Fun and Frolics’ is on
every Fri from 9pm with the
gorgeous Ruby Reynolds, and
even more exciting - Fri 4th Nov
sees Ruby will be doing a wee turn on the
NTB stage, followed by the Hunk Of The
Month comp! If you think you have what it
takes, more details can be found in the bar
or Facebook. Sat 19th Nov sees MSC
coming to the Newtown. Their drink promos
are still in full swing all day Tue-Fri - with
£2.50 for Tennents and IPA and house
VODKA, GIN AND RUM with Mixer – not too
shabby! Food is now being served on Sat
afternoons, along with the usual famous Sun
Roasts.
Excitement in Priscillas, as they kick off
a brand new talent show called ‘’The Voice’’.
Heats start on Fri 4th Nov, then will be every
Fri and Sun until the final which will be held
on Sun 18th Dec. The competition will be
hosted by Jamie Lee Morley, with an
experienced panel on the final night! There is
a fab cash prize and recording studio
session for the winner. Totes awesome! On
Sat 5th Nov, Priscillas have a free Spiritual
Reading happening, with professional
readers and live music from 5-8pm.

who always outdo
themselves with
Hallowe’en cheer. The
venue is already
prepped up with fancy decs and Hallowe’en
