A new method of radiography using a distraction method (PennHip) has been reported<br />

for the purpose of diagnosing canine hip dysplasia in dogs younger than 2 years. 497-503 This<br />

method uses an adjustable distraction device to determine the degree of joint laxity present in<br />

the dog. The degree of laxity derived using this method is referred to as the distraction index<br />

(DI). Although the data are still developing, results suggest that (1) a DI of >0.7 was associated<br />
