Fig. 4-144 A 7-year-old male German Shepherd dog with a 3-<br />

month history of pain when jumping. A hard mass was present on<br />

the lateral aspect of the right rear foot. There is an area of soft-tissue<br />

swelling lateral to the metatarsal phalangeal joint of the fifth digit,<br />

which contains multiple well-defined mineralized densities. These<br />

densities have a poorly organized internal architecture. There is a<br />

slight erosion noted in the proximal end of the digit adjacent to the<br />

mineralized densities (arrow). Diagnosis: Calcinosis circumscripta.
