The dorsoventral view is obtained by placing the animal in sternal recumbency <strong>and</strong> extending<br />

the neck <strong>and</strong> skull in a straight line <strong>and</strong> with the plane of the hard palate parallel to that<br />

of the x-ray film (Fig. 5-3). There must be no rotation along the linear axis of the patient.<br />

The evaluation of the positioning is the same as for the ventrodorsal view. This view is useful<br />

when evaluating the m<strong>and</strong>ibles, temporom<strong>and</strong>ibular joints, zygomatic arches, <strong>and</strong> lateral<br />

walls of the calvarium.
