Registration must be completed by Thursday, 30 September 2010. After this date, a late
Registration fee of £50 will be levied by the University Fees Office.
It is important that academic and administrative staff meet with you to advise you before you select
your optional course units. As mentioned previously, you will meet with academic and administrative
on the first day of Induction and will be provided with your programme handbook, final timetables,
etc. at that time. After you have all the relevant information, you may select your course units.
Optional Course Unit Selection can be completed up to the end of the second week of teaching
(Friday, 8 October 2010).
Students can register online on any computer at any time throughout registration week as their
programme’s induction timetable permits. You will be provided with details of computer cluster
locations and opening hours with your Induction Week timetable on arrival. Computer cluster location
information can also be found on page 7 of the Crucial Guide.

International Students
The Arrival Guide contains detailed information on how to get to Manchester and what you can
expect from living and studying here. The Guide has been written specifically for international
students who have accepted an offer to study at The University of Manchester. You can access
an online copy at http://www.manchester.ac.uk/international/supportservices/arrival/.
Unfortunately, IDPM staff are not able to meet individual students on arrival in Manchester. There
will be a free Airport Collection Service running between Manchester Airport and University of
Manchester-owned accommodation. You will be able to make use of this service if you are
arriving at any time between 07:30 and 21.00 from Tuesday 14 to Sunday, 19 September. Please
use the Airport Collection Service Booking Form at
http://www.manchester.ac.uk/international/supportservices/airportcollectionservice/ to book
collection from the airport.
If you arrive outside the times of the service, you will need to make your own way to your
accommodation. A taxi from Manchester Airport to the city centre should cost about £20.
If you require a visa to enter and study in the UK, you should already have received the
information you require from the School of Environment and Development Recruitment and
Admissions Officers and have applied for your visa.
Please note that your Programme Administrator is not qualified to provide guidance on
immigration issues, nor the visa application process. Should you have any queries or concerns,
the International Advice Team at the Student Services Centre has qualified staff who should be
able to assist you. The Student Services Centre is based at Burlington Street (#57 on the
Campus Map*).

Various orientation events for new International Students are offered from Tuesday, 16
September 2010 through to Sunday, 19 September 2010 inclusive. Past students have found
these orientation events extremely helpful as the programme is designed to provide information to
students to help them to adjust to living in the UK and studying at the University of Manchester.
Talks and presentations include details of health provision and the National Health Service
(NHS), support services available in the University, guidance on how to open a bank account, and
safety and security. In addition to the information sessions there are also opportunities to attend
