Thank you for purchasing the SensorGuard TeleSpyTM<br />

model SNI. You've selected a unique telephone<br />

notification system manufactured to exacting performance<br />

and durability specifications. The intention of this<br />

fully operational telephone is to offer an additional<br />

function that notifies the user of the presence of another<br />

person within a. specifically designated perimeter.<br />

Entering this perimeter constitutes an intrusion by another<br />

person. Disclaimer: Always note that the TeleSpyTM<br />

telephone is intended to be used as an intrusion<br />

notification system only and should never be used as,<br />

nor is it intended to be used as, a security device, Any<br />

dependancy upon the user for this purpose is in direct<br />

defiance of the makerldistributers intended use.<br />

Please read through this <strong>manual</strong> to familiarize yourself<br />

with the features and design layout. Then procede to<br />

follow the easy step-by-step instructions to install and<br />

operate. Retain this <strong>manual</strong> for future reference.<br />

You telephone is FCC approved for connection to your<br />

telephone line.


IMPORTANT SAFETY<br />

INSTRUCTIONS<br />

When using your telephone equipment, basic safety<br />

precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk<br />

of fire, electric shock and injury to persons, including the<br />

following:<br />

1. Read and understand all instructions.<br />

2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the<br />

product.<br />

3. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning.<br />

Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a<br />

damp cloth for cleaning.<br />

4. Do not use this product near water, for example, near a<br />

bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub, in a<br />

wet basement, or near a swimming pool.<br />

5. Do not place this product may fall causing serious<br />

damage to the product.<br />

6. Slots and openings in the cabinet and the back or<br />

bottom are provided for ventilation, to protect from<br />

overheating. These openings must not be blocked or<br />

covered. The openings should never be blocked by<br />

placing the product on the bed, sofa, rug, or other<br />

similar surface. This product should never be placed<br />

near or over a radiator or heat register. This product<br />

should not be placed in a built-in installation unless<br />

proper ventilation is provided.<br />

7. Never push objects of any kind into this product<br />

through cabinet slots as they may touch dangerous<br />

voltage points or short out parts that could result in a<br />

risk of fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any<br />

kind on the product.<br />

8. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble<br />

this product, but take it to a qualified serviceman when<br />

some service or repair work is required. Opening or<br />

removing covers may expose you to dangerous<br />

voltages or other risks. Incorrect reassembly can cause<br />

electric shock when the appliance is subsequently used.<br />

9. Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer<br />

servicing to qualified service personnel under the<br />

following conditions:<br />

A. When the power supply cord or plug is damaged or<br />

frayed.<br />

B. If liquid has been spilled into the product.<br />

C. If the product has been exposed to rain or water.<br />

D. If the product does not operate normally by following<br />

the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls<br />

that are covered by the operating instructions because<br />

improper adjustment of other controls may result in<br />

damage and will often require extensive work by a<br />

qualified technician to restore the product to normal<br />

operation.<br />

-E. If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has<br />

been damaged.<br />

F. If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.<br />

10. Avoid using a telephone (other than a cordless type)<br />

during an electrical storm. There may be a remote<br />

risk of electric shock from lightning.<br />

11 .Do not use the telephone to report a gas leak in the<br />

vicinity of the leak.<br />

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS<br />

1. Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.<br />

2. Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless<br />

the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.<br />

3. Never touch uninsulated telephone wire or terminals<br />

unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the<br />

network interface.<br />

4. Use caution when installing or modifying telephone<br />

lines.<br />

NOTE: Refer to "FCC Requirements" section before<br />

connection to telephone line.<br />

In addition to the handset and telephone base, each<br />

INSTALLATION<br />

Plug AC adapter into phone and into conventional AC 120V<br />

wall outlet.<br />

Coil Cord Connection<br />

Insert one end of the coil into modular jack located on the<br />

side of the base. Connect the other end into the modular<br />

jack located on the handset.<br />

Line Cord Connection<br />

With a modular telephone system, connect the straight<br />

telephone line cord to the modular jack located on the<br />

bottom of the base. Insert the other end of cord into a<br />

modular wall jack. Make sure all plugs snap firmly in<br />

place (see Diagram B).<br />

With a four prong style jack, simply use a plug in<br />

modular adapter (see Diagram C).<br />

OPERATION<br />

The TeleSpyTM operates as a regular telephone. Calls are<br />

received and sent normally. Using the TeleSpyTM as an<br />

intrusion detector:<br />

1. Lift the handset.<br />

2. Listen for dialtone.<br />

3. Enter the telephone number to be dialed in the event if<br />

an intrusion. (This number is now entered in the re-dial<br />

memory.).<br />

4. Hang up telephone.<br />

5. Turn the TeleSpyTM power on.(19).<br />

6. Re-dial sequence begins. Re-dialed number rings.<br />

Recipient can answer call, or not, after 60 seconds the<br />

TeleSpyTM is operational.<br />

7. To deactivate, turn TeleSpyTM power off.(l9)


Testing the TeleSpyTM telephone system<br />

The "test" function allows the user to discover the timing,<br />

sensitivity, and distance parameters of the TeleSpyTM.<br />

1 . Test switch to "on" position.(l7)<br />

2. Operate TeleSpyTM as directed.(Page 4)<br />

3. LED "test" light will come on during "off hook" function,<br />

"off hook function" shows instant of detection and<br />

moment of TeleSpyTM listening cycle disconnection.<br />

Last Number Redial<br />

Your TeleSpyTM telephone system remembers the last<br />

number dialed. If the number you dial is busy or not<br />

being answered, hang up. If you want to redial the last<br />

number automatically, press the REDIAL button.<br />

NOTE: You can redial the same telephone number as<br />

many times as required. However, once you dial another<br />

number the previous number is erased.<br />

Ringer OfflLowlHigh<br />

Your TeleSpyTM telephone system features a harmonic<br />

ringer which can be adjusted to a loud (high) or soft (low)<br />

sound level. When you don't want to be disturbed. Slide<br />

the switch to the "OFF" position. You can still make<br />

outgoing calls without being disturbed by incoming calls.<br />

Receiver Volume Control<br />

The receiver volume control is located on the side of<br />

your handset. This enables you to adjust the receiver<br />

volume on your telephone handset from normal to high<br />

for a more comfortable listening level.<br />

Flash<br />

The FLASH key can be used to retrieve a new dial tone<br />

after ending a call.<br />

NOTE: The FLASH key is also a useful feature for<br />

special telephone services such as call waiting and three<br />

party calling. Press briefly, release and perform the<br />

custom call procedure.<br />

Mute<br />

To talk to someone on your end of the phone without the<br />

caller hearing your conversation, press and hold the<br />

MUTE key. To resume your telephone conversation,<br />

release the MUTE key.


TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE<br />

DON'T RETURN IT YET!<br />

If you have followed the instructions in this <strong>manual</strong>, and<br />

have difficulty operating your TeleSpyTM telephone<br />

system locate the "Problem" and solution to each below.<br />

If the solution to your problem is not listed below, call our<br />

toll free service number on phone back and one of our<br />

experts will talk you through the problem.<br />

Problem: No dial tone<br />

Improper installation. Recheck all modular plugs connections.<br />

Problem with the wiring. Try another phone jack. If your<br />

phone works on another jack, you may be a problem<br />

with your wiring. Contact your local phone company.<br />

Problem: Phone doesn't ring<br />

Ringer switch is not set correctly. Make sure ringer<br />

OffILowl High switch is in the On position.<br />

Too many telephones are installed on the same line.<br />

Contact your local telephone company to determine the<br />

maximum number of extensions for your calling area.<br />

Problem: The sound volume is too low.<br />

Another extension is off hook. Hang up extension.<br />

HEARING AID COMPATIBILITY<br />

Your TeleSpyTM telephone system is compatible with<br />

inductively coupled hearing aids.<br />

CONSUMER INFORMATION<br />

This equipment complies with part 68 of the FCC rules and the<br />

requirements adopted by the ACTA. On the bottom of this<br />

equipment is a label that contains, among other information, a<br />

product identifier in the format US:J4HTE08BSNl. If<br />

requested, this number must be provided to the telephone<br />

com pany.<br />

An applicable certification jacks Universal Service Order<br />

Codes (USOC) for the equipment is provided (i.e., RJIIC) in<br />

the packaging with each piece of approved terminal equipment.<br />

A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises<br />

wiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable<br />

FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A<br />

compliant telephone cord and modular plugis provided with this<br />

product. It is designed to be connected to a compatible modular<br />

jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions for<br />

details.<br />

The REN is used to determine the number of devices that<br />

may be connected to a telephone line. Excessive RENs on<br />

a telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in<br />

response to an incoming call. In most but not all areas, the<br />

sum of RENs should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain<br />

of the number of devices that may be connected to a line,<br />

as determined by the total RENs, contact the local<br />

telephone company. [For products approved after<br />

July 23, 2001, the REN for this product is part of the<br />

product identifier that has the format US:AAAEQ##TXXXX.<br />

The digits represented by ## are the REN without a decimal<br />

point (e.g., 03 is a REN of 0.3). For earlier products, the<br />

REN is separately shown on the label.]<br />

If this equipment SNI causes harm to the telephone<br />

network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that<br />

temporary discontinuance of service may be required. But if<br />

advance notice isn't practical, the telephone company will<br />

notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be<br />

advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if<br />

you believe it is necessary.<br />

The telephone company may make changes in its facilities,<br />

equipment, operations or procedures that could affect the<br />

operation of the equipment. If this happens the telephone<br />

company will provide advance notice in order for you to make<br />

necessary modifications to maintain unintempted service.<br />

If you experience trouble with this equipment, disconnect it from<br />

the network until the problem has been corrected or until you are<br />

sure that the equipment is not malfunctioning.<br />

Please follow instructions for repairing if any (e.g. battery<br />

replacement section); otherwise do not alter or repair any<br />

parts of device except specified.<br />

Connection to party line service is subject to state tariffs.<br />

Contact the state public utility commission, public service<br />

commission or corporation commission for information.<br />

- NOTICE: If your home has specially wired alarm<br />

equipment connected to the telephone line, ensure the<br />

installation of this (SN?) does not disable your alarm<br />

equipment. If you have questions about what will disable<br />

alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or a<br />

qualified installer.<br />

This equipment is hearing aid compatible.


WHEN PROGRAMMING EMERGENCY NUMBERS AND<br />

(OR) MAKING TEST CALLS TO EMERGENCY NUMBERS:<br />

I. Remain on the line and briefly explain to the dispatcher<br />

the reason for the call.<br />

2. Perform such activities in the off-peak hours, such as<br />

early morning or late evenings.<br />

Limited Warranty<br />

This TeleSpyTM telephone is warranted to the original<br />

purchaser to be free from defects in materials and<br />

workmanship under normal installation, use, and service<br />

for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase as<br />

shown on the purchaser's receipt.<br />

The obligation of SENSORGUARD~M under this warranty<br />

shall be limited to repair or replacement (at our option)<br />

during the warranty period of any part which proves<br />

defective in material or workmanship under normal<br />

installation, use, and service, provided the product is<br />

returned to SENSORGUARDTM or to one of our authorized<br />

Service Centers TRANSPORTATION CHARGES<br />

PREPAID (except for California residents). Products<br />

returned to us or to an Authorized Service Center must be<br />

accompanied by a copy of the purchase receipt. In the<br />

absence of such purchase receipt, the warranty period<br />

shall be one (1) year from the date of manufacture. To<br />

obtain service under this warranty, return the defective<br />

product to the service center nearest you together with<br />

your sales slip and $5.00 for postage and handling<br />

(California residents need only provide proof of purchase).<br />

You may also have other warranty rights which vary from<br />

state to state.<br />

This warranty shall be invalid if the product is damaged<br />

as a result of defacement, misuse, abuse, neglect,<br />

accident, destruction or alteration of the serial number,<br />

improper electrical voltages or currents, repair alteration<br />

or maintenance by any person or party other than our<br />

own service facility or an authorized Service Center, or<br />

any use violative of instructions furnished by us.


This warranty is also rendered invalid if this product is<br />

removed from the country in which it was purchased, if it<br />

is used in a country in which it is not registered for use,<br />

andlor if it is used in a country for which it was not<br />

designed. Due to variations in telephone systems and<br />

communications laws, this product may be illegal for use<br />

in some countries. SENSOR GUARD^^ assumes no<br />

responsibility for damages or penalties incurred resulting<br />

from the use of this product in a manner or location other<br />

than that for which it is intended.<br />

This one-year limited warranty is in lieu of all other<br />

expressed warranties, obligations or liabilities.<br />

ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, OBLIGATIONS, OR<br />

LIABILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE<br />

IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND<br />

FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SHALL BE<br />

LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE ONE-YEAR DURATION<br />

OF THlS WRITTEN LIMITED WARRANTY. SOME STATES<br />

DO NOT ALLOW LIMITATIONS ON HOW LONG AN<br />

IMPLIED WARRANTY LASTS, SO THE ABOVE<br />

LIMITATIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.<br />

IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY<br />

SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES<br />

FOR BREACH OF THlS OR ANY OTHER WARRANTY,<br />

Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of<br />

special, incidental or consequential damages, so the<br />

above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This<br />
